Mac Users Rejoice!

With a micro sd inserted in the pearl, plug the bb into your mac via USB and it acts like a drive! No software needed. Files for music, pics, photos etc show up! Just drop and drag your mp3s or photos into the corresponding folder and voila!

This feature is also available on Windows XP and Vista RC1

Of course it is, Windows-using friend. But the Pearl came out with NO Macintosh syncing software, so this Mass Storage Mode connection described in the parent is currently the only* way to move data from the Mac to the phone. The third-party sync software that RIM allows BB users to download for free needs to be updated for the 8100 and hasn't been yet. (We've been assured it will be soon.)

* (files can also be transferred through the cumbersome Bluetooth file-transfer "function" on the 8100.)

I saw this title and got all excited. I thought you were going to announce the release of PocketMac 4.0 :(

I, as well, opened this thread with that false hope.

somarpro 09-25-2006 02:19 PM

Yeah I got all excited too. That feeling was shot down quick.

jpeezy 09-25-2006 04:08 PM

ditto

krbmsw 09-25-2006 04:11 PM

Curses! I, too, thought this would be the announcement for 4.0. I'm anxiously awaiting to move all my Palm datebook and addressbook info over.

Nohl 09-25-2006 04:15 PM

PM 4.0 is in beta now

I know someone who is testing it now with the Pearl. It seems nearly there. They have some features that are 'not quite perfected yet.'

Syncing looks pretty stable and let's you sync from multiple sources :)

They are adding a program installer (yeah) and a Safari bookmark installer (yeah).

I'll share more when I learn more. shhh

krbmsw 09-25-2006 04:20 PM

They've been saying it will be released before the end of September. Anyone have a sense of how real that is?

TexRob 09-26-2006 11:30 AM

I am also anxiously awaiting this. I am tired of having to boot over to XP to use desktop manager.

chris716 09-26-2006 02:43 PM

wow it works

i finally got my pearl to show up as a mass media storage device on my powerbook. Thanks for the post now i can easily transfer music on photos to it. If anyone is having problems doing this here is what you need to do. First you need to have a microSD card in the pearl. Next connect the pearl to the mac with the usb cable that it came with. On your pearl its going to say that it wont charge because the drivers are not installed and to press ok dont press ok, instead push the back button then a new screen is going to show up asking you if you would like to activate mass media storage mode. Click yes and also click where it says not to ask again. And there you go its there

id like to know when PM 4 is coming too.. i have until NEXT thursday (not 2 days away) until my buyers remorse period ends and i really dont want it if it cant sync with my macbook... as much as i love it 80% of the reason i wanted it was because i could have my iCal events/alarms on my phone...

If you're that anxious to get something that will sync flawlessly with iCal, my recommendation would be to get a Treo 700p. Otherwise, you'll have to wait it out patiently like the rest of us. Hopefully it won't be too much longer but until then there's nothing we can do but wait it out.

FijiParisi 09-26-2006 05:24 PM

worst case scenario is ill return it that thursday if there is no sign of PM4 and buy it again at a later date...

RIckyd 09-27-2006 07:46 PM

hello there, did you have any problems with the sd card? I tried inserting the card but the BB just doesn't boot up... it cicles and the screen flickers...any idea whats happening?

somarpro 09-27-2006 07:50 PM

What's the capacity of the card? The pearl can only support upto 1GB.
