How to SIM unlock 7100
It took a while, but I finally got the instructions on how to unlock the 7100. I received the unlock code from T-Mobile, but the instructions were for a 72XX and would not work on a 7100.
Once you have an unlcok code, do the following: T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request Sim Unlock Reference: 0xxxx IMEI: xxxxxxxxxxxx Unlock Code: xxxxxxxxxxx Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your Blackberry device. NOTE: If you receive an error message while performing the instructions below, stop. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked. Verify the IMEI by pressing *#06# and submit a new request. Warning! The Wireless Mode MUST BE OFF before performing the given SIM Unlock instructions in order to avoid causing the device from becoming defective. How to turn Wireless Mode Off: 1. Scroll to the Airplane Icon (Turn Wireless Off.) 2. Press Select. 3. Wireless Mode will turn off. 4. REMOVE the SIM card 5. Power On the Device (Put the Battery back in) How to SIM Unlock the device: 1. Go to the "Tools" screen 2. Select "Settings" 2. Select the "SIM Card" option 3. Type MEPPD 4. It should then display a list "SIM, Network, Network Subset, etc..." 5. To select "Network" type MEPP Alt-2 6. It should then ask for the code 7. Enter the unlock code Thank You, Sim Unlock Department T-Mobile USA, Inc. I have corrected the instructions to operate correctly as directed by tier 2 technical support. It works!! My phone is SIM unlocked. I tested it with an ATT SIM and it worked just fine. |
So ya wanna sell it now? ;)
|
No, it's not for sale. :D

Barjohn - Congrats on getting this unlocked and working on ATT.
However, as I mentioned in a post on HOFO according to my conversations with RIM, this will only allow the phone portion of the 7100t to be used on networks other than T-Mobile. According to RIM other networks such as ATT or Cingular are not setup to provide BB service to the 7100t. So in other words an unlocked 7100t will work fine as far as receiving/making calls but it will not operate on the network as far as getting mail pushed to it. I have talked to RIM twice about this and each time they have confirmed this to be true. If anyone out there has been able to accomplish this setup I would love to hear about it. |
for what its worth....
I am from the NY area, and I am now in Raleigh North Carolina and working on Cingular's network with no roaming charges with e-mail and full data service. On AT&Ts network in northern PA (along I-80) I was not getting data service or e-mail, just telephony.
I don't know if this means that when unlocked it will stop working on Cingular's network, but at least when locked on T-Mobile's network it works perfectly on Cingular's network. |
I can't confirm data as my ATT account is a voice only plan. If I get a chance I will get it changed to data and try it.

barjohn, thanks for those unlock instructions... they were completley different than what tmo was telling me on the phone and their way wasn't working...
|
Yay, I just requested an unlock code. I'm eager to check it out even though I don't have the slightest idea what I will do differently with an unlocked phone.

Thanks for putting the instructions here - the instructions T-Mo gave me left out a letter in one of the secret codes.
T-Mo makes it so easy to unlock! I had to pay ~$30 to unlock an AT&T phone through a 3rd party. I can see why T-Mo gets higher marks for customer service. |
