I knew there was something fishy with the internet connection!
Yep, I was the one that started the thread:
Deal breaker! Internet Connection or NOT? I knew there was something funny. Look at what's happening with the BB Bridge app and AT&T. No wonder they where clear in the beginning when the spec sheet clearly stated "3G network access using your BlackBerry® Smartphone as a modem" and then it was removed, thus my thread. I can speculate that AT&T did not like the idea and RIM just decided to change the wording on the site and not deal with the issue. My PB is pre-ordered at Best Buy (but they haven’t called me yet so I'm not sure they even have any 64G available) but I will be waiting a few days to see what happens. I did walk into another BB store and played with the tablet for a while and liked it a lot. I hope this gets resolved ASAP. As for RIM, if they want to be in the game and play hard, they should get this fixed and have better communication in the future. Comment! |

You are assuming an awful lot.

Did the OP just order me to comment?

I think you should, regardless!

Bridge works on my AT&T Torch.
They just blocked it in app world at the moment. |

Other devices require additional data plans for connectivity. With the PlayBook, you pay tethering charges (or not). Regardless, you still get internet service and that shouldn't be a "deal breaker" (unless you wanted to get around the charges and that's important enough to you). Yep. The PlayBook is similar to my now long in the tooth netbook. It has internet connectivity, if I have the corresponding "socket" to its "plug", i.e. ethernet or wifi. The PlayBook of course doesn't have an ethernet card and connection, but it does have the Bridge (as well as DUN tether capability).
sototoro, your gripe is going right by me. If you want a cell phone radio in your PlayBook, and that is a must have, then yeah that would be a deal breaker. But that is not the same as saying the PlayBook today does not have internet connectivity. And the thing with AT&T, that's just AT&T being AT&T. As someone else joked, the service book disabling the Bridge app is to follow. |
Re: I knew there was something fishy with the internet connection!
I should have said Internet conection or Not with the BB Bridge!

I think I stated in your original threat. I am Canadian! I have Virgin Mobile Canada service on my BB and internet tethering works, also I don't have to pay anything extra to the carrier. I use to tether my device to my laptop while I waited for the home internet to be installed... Otherwise call AT&T and complain to them! :) Sorry to hear you over estimated the supply of the PB and decided to order yours instead of walking into Best Buy and purchasing it on the spot. So many stores here in Canada had the 64GB one in stock. That's how I got mine... A. |
Re: I knew there was something fishy with the internet connection!
One thing I have to admit is for whatever reason there is way to much grey information about the Playbook. Try as they might RIM hasn't been able to convey to the market exactly what the device can and can't do and how it goes about doing it. Unless the consumer does some digging they will never realize what the Playbook is capable of or what it's limitations actually are.

Re: I knew there was something fishy with the internet connection!
The playbook is a decent device RIM just has to ramp up the application developement for it now and support users on all levels, and not just the business user types.

Re: I knew there was something fishy with the internet connection!
My company doesn't allow tethering, that's the only shitty part of the itnernet tether.
Being that I have a BB it doesnt matter, I can just use the bridge browser if really needed. Most places I go I have Wi-Fi. |

There's no way that the Playbook will be able to compete in the long run against the iPad in the consumer space. |
