BES/Exchange newbie questions

Our company will be setting up a BES/Exchange next year. I have some newbie questions. When I signed up a trial version—it asked what carrier I want to use (something like that)….

1. Does the BES need a carrier (AT&T, Verizon, etc…)?? And for what?

2. In our company, we have users with blackberry handheld from AT&T, Verizon, Sprints, etc... Can someone with a blackberry phone from different carrier able to use our same blackberry enterprise server?

3. Are users required purchasing a blackberry service plan from the carrier in order to work??

The BES is carrier agnostic. It requires a carrier for data provisioning.

Yes, the BES does not care which carrier the device is associated with.

Yes, you will need a BB Enterprise Plan to activate the device on the BES.

3. yes they need to specifically get the BES plan to attach to a BES.
This runs much more expensive than the standard BIS plan.

I'm not sure I'd say 'much' more expensive. The BES plan is typically around $10 more then the BIS plan.

Really? Every carrier I've interacted with charges $10/mo more.

I agree with the exception of Sprint. If you have Sprint and the Simply Everything Plan, they charge $20 for BES provisioning.

what about a simple apples to apples comparison:

Sprint xxx minutes + BIS
Sprint xxx minutes + BES

$10 more?

or do they only do the SIMPLY EVERYTHING MEGA SMS AND NAV PACKAGE
