Made a Mistake
I'm very new to the whole blackberry world and may have made a mistake.
First I’m running Bes Express version 5.0.2 supporting about 8 devices all the same devices 8350i. I was trying to set up the OS push function by creating the software bundles. In my frustration :x from it not working I wanted to delete the configurations that I created and start over. I did not do it from the BAS like a good admin. Like a noob I did it from the database and deleted some entries from the os tables. Now when I go to edit supported blackberry device software bundles I get this error. The data has been updated by another user and must be refreshed before making additional changes. Please cancel and edit again I’m pretty sure I broke a connection between the database and the BAS. I just want to know how to repair the broken connection and be able to push out OS updates from the BES Express. |
Re: Made a Mistake
Basically, you're fvcked.
Restore the database from the backup you made right before you deleted entries. (You did make a backup, right?) |
Re: Made a Mistake
Have you seen my username amullennoob LOL. Unfortunatlly I did not. I thought about that after I deleted the entries. If I needed to uninstall BES Express and delete the old database and start over. Would my devices loose all of their data (contacts, etc.)

Re: Made a Mistake
You're going to want to start over with a fresh database. I would never consider running a corrupt SQL database in a production environment.
Yes, your users are going to need to do a new Enterprise Activation on their handheld after you get the new BES set up. (The handhelds will need to be wiped first.) They won't lose any PIM data as that is stored in your desktop email system. It will re-sync when you do the new EA. |
Re: Made a Mistake
Yes, you're definitely going to want to start over. And for the record, I've been administering our BlackBerry infrastructure for almost 4 years, and I've never once touched the database, aside from backing it up during upgrades.

Re: Made a Mistake
Before I wipe the devices sould I back up their contacts first?
|
Re: Made a Mistake
You can, but it doesn't really matter as it will pull them when you activate them again.

Re: Made a Mistake
Only thing I have ever touched is the IT ADMIN QUEUE on BES 4.x after a SQL backup.
and delete a user stuck in pending delete. |
Re: Made a Mistake
Regarding the original problem: The OS push over the air is only working if your carrier supports it and if you've got the OSs installed on your BES.
As the others state, you have to setup BES on a fresh DB, activate all the users again. Everything that is on Exchange (i.e. Mails, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Notes etc.) will be back on the devices after activation, so no need to do a backup. Other stuff will be lost (due to the wipe): SMS, Internet Favourites, Alarm settings etc. etc. After you've done all this, configure the OS push again, and if it doesn't work, let us know here, so we can help. |

"BlackBerry Device Software deployment managed by BlackBerry Administration Service" If you have set that to "Yes", you have to load and configure each device OS you want to send to your device. You have to do that through the option: "Manage BlackBerry Device Software bundles" I am pretty sure that @amullennoob has switched "BlackBerry Device Software deployment managed by BlackBerry Administration Service" to "Yes" otherwise he would not have had the option to create device OS bundles. |

Sorry about that! |

If you want to push OS updates wirelesly but controlled by your BES IT policies and software configuration, OS needs to be available from your carrier. If they don't make any of them available to create software configuration then you won't be able to create wireless software configurations but only wired. Needless to say that either way sucks in BES 5.0. |
