Removing Carrier Branding 8800
I have an old BB 8800 that I'm planning on repurposing it since I miss having BBM since I switched to my iPhone.
It's been unlocked, but the thing thats really bugging me is that the boot screen is covered in T-Mobile branding, there's also T-mobile themes etc... So, anyone know how I might remove all of the random stuff that's on there and get back to a 'pure' blackberry OS at least? Also in regards to the software upgrade... I'm on a mac, is this going to be an issue? Thanks! |
Re: Removing Carrier Branding 8800
No can do on the boot screen. That is burned into the firmware.
And since you use a Mac (hopefully OS 10.5.5 or better), you can only update the OS to an official release by your carrier. To do otherwise requires a PC. There is no "pure BB" OS. They are all modified by the carriers to include items specific to that carrier. |

Dang, that's a shame, but thank you none-theless!
Don't suppose you know what the situation is with Skype? Some say you can, some say theres a genuine app, some say it's only for US customers...annd... well, some simply say no.... |
Re: Removing Carrier Branding 8800
The official Skype app is only available on one US carrier (Verizon) and is very limited.
There are Skype like products, but they all use your minutes! |

We don't discuss that program on this forum. It was illegally obtained from RIM and never distributed by them.
Find another place to chat about it. |
