Unable to sync; too many contacts?

Working on a BB 9700 that fails to synch (wireless or connected); it gets to 99% then stops for eternity. The user has 3900 contacts, which doesn't seem like a lot but not so sure how much space those users will require....

Does anyone have any information on the maximum number of contacts or size of the contact DB, and how to determine what's in use on the unit? It has 88M of memory and a 4G card so that does not appear to be the issue.

TIA....

There is no limit to the number of contacts you can sync. I know of users who have over 20,000 contacts and no problems syncing. The only limit is the free internal memory that your BlackBerry needs to run smoothly. Figure 12MB to 15MB of free internal memory as the minimum. The media card doesn't figure into how your BlackBerry runs. It's just for storing things like ringtones, pictures, music, etc. Programs and data bases for programs must be in the internal memory.

Usually a failure to sync like yours is due to a corrupted or mis-formatted contact. Having an email address in the second email field while the first email field is empty seems to screw up the syncing process. Normally the syncing process breaks down at the bad contact so perhaps going through them from the back will yield quicker results rather then starting from the beginning, where things seem to be syncing properly.

Re: Unable to sync; too many contacts?

I've had this happen a couple of times. Even though the user is able to send and receive email and calendar the enterprise activation icon never goes away and it's stuck at 99% or whatever. Like Rambo said, I've thought it was a record that was messed up. What I've done ( keeps the users happy) is since I know everything else is syncing, I either just hide the enterprise activation icon, or do another activation with sync disabled on the server. The new activation will end immediately, the enterprise activation icon goes away, then you turn sync back on on BES and verify the user is getting email. It won't fix the messed up contact ( if there was one) but if you are in a hurry and can't go through all of the contacts, it gets rid of the enterprise activation icon.

Is the user on BES or are they syncing using DM to Outlook or Google? And is there an error code? If DM, what version of DM and Outlook?

My thought is there might be a blank record that is stopping it. have seen that before - or it could also be a corrupt one.
