Is there a voicemail app that replaces voicemail service from your carrier?
Looking to save some money on my plan by getting rid of less used features. Wondering if there is an app available which will answer my calls and take messages similar to the voicemail service from my carrier. But one that will do it from my phone while its on for free. Is there something like this available?

I don't know if you can use these without a voicemail plan, but try
Visual Voicemail For Your Phone | YouMail |
Google Voice can do what you want.
Actually, any number can replace where your calls go. Just go into phone and change where your unanswered calls go. Go to Phone>Options> Call Forwarding. Also if you do change your voicemail remember to edit your voice mail number that your phone dials. Phone>Options>Voice mail |
Both of the above are excellent options.
I have both YouMail and Google Voice. Not sure if GV is still by invite only or not? David |
You pay for voicemail from your carrier?
Keep in mind that forwarding to an alternate voicemail service may count against the voice minutes in your plan. Check with your carrier for details. |

QUOTE] That was my thought. Never had to pay extra for voicemail, even when i was on a cheap phone and cheap plan. |
With Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T (I've had 'em all) voice mail is always thrown in for free. It'a a feature of all their basic minutes plans.
