Did anyone try to download Google Maps amd mail application for the flip? I tried but no luck :?

I installed them on the wife's 8220 with no problem.

^me too! Gmail, maps, etc.
I did it by goin' to Googles' site and then sent a SMS link; the rest self-installed.

How did you try to load them? What were the specific results (error messages, etc.)?

Well, I sent the link to my phone, opened it and got to this page

No downloads or sefl installation prompt.
I have installed Google maps on my Palm T/X before never had a problem:?

as far as I know, you need a data plan first, i.e. google mail doesn't work with wifi. I tried on flip once wifi is on.

it does work with wifi :-) at least in my case
