Is there a way to disable "System Attendant" alerts on Bes v4.0?

Does anyone know of a way to disable the alerts (used to come out as "APB" alerts in 2.2 BES) sent to user's handhelds when an error occurs? I'm not referring to specific server errors, but just errors that might occur with processing messages for an individual user. One example of an error some handhelds received over the weekend is:

-----

Subject: BlackBerry Service Message

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server was unable to process a message. You can
still view this message in your desktop email program. Your system
administrator has been notified.

The reason that the message couldn't be processed is one thing, but flooding a handheld with these messages just doesn't make much sense to me. Any ideas?

I was just wondering this too. One of our VPs recieved over 70 of these from overnight. What would cause this to occur in the first place?

i've never seen these... :-)

I have just recently started seeing this messages in my test BES environment. (4.0/Domino) 3 of my test users received btwn 1-5 of these msgs "overnite" and i received almost 30. While the message: "The BlackBerry Enterprise Server was unable to process a message. You can still view this message in your desktop email program. Your system administrator has been notified." was displayed on my bb, there were not 30 corresponding msgs in my inbox.

Would like to hear from others experiencing this same issue.

Yep..I get about one a week. Comes in like a page/sms so it causes my Blackberry alarm thinking I have a priority page.
I saw a reg hack for 2.2 to turn off the notification on the BES Server, and also to change the message. (see Admin guide link below page 83)

Didn't see one listed for 4.0, maybe it's the same...haven't tried it.

Several of our users started getting these over the weekend. :(

4.0 no SPs on Domino here.

I know how to make it happen - refresh the design of your mail file! I've been testing a new mail file for Domino and when I did the first refresh it sent me about 70 messages and then when I refreshed it back to my old one I got the same thing.

On the Domino console I get a message like:
"Already attempted to open message 7AA for user Chris Whisonant/COMPORIUM: Skipping Now"
"Sending APB to Chris Whisonant/COMPORIUM"

I see that there are some BES hotfixes available, but the notes don't address this issue.

Ive gotten a few of these and so have my users. It usually stems from a Message in the Event Viewer that says something like unknown compression type.

mkb 04-27-2005 02:32 PM

We've been able to narrow it down to the views in Lotus Notes. Whenever any sort of database maintenance is performed on a mail file, the BES seems to think that each view is a message that has already been processed and then generates an APB for each view. That's not good. We haven't been to find a way to stop it from happening yet, including the 2.2 registry hack. I'm starting to get a little desperate...

What version of BES are you using "mkb"? We are on 4 SP1 and still getting the messages, but not sure why...

mkb 05-09-2005 11:37 AM

We have 4.0 in production and 4.0 SP1 in test, but both still send the APBs. Supposedly this will now be corrected in SP2, which from what I've been told is not due out until the end of June. I hope there is someway to come up with a work around before then.

scotth 05-09-2005 11:40 AM

I agree, it is terrible. What maintenance are you doing to generate the messages? We just tired compact, design refresh, and replace and can't generate the message at will...
Thanks!

mkb 05-09-2005 11:43 AM

The easiest way to re-create the problem is to go into one of the views that is generating the messages, open it in designer, and just save the view. This will likely also happen if you create a new view (not in the template), then open and save it.

scotth 05-09-2005 11:58 AM

OK... So how did you track down what view was generating the message?

mkb 05-09-2005 12:56 PM

If you look in the Application Error log (or the MAGT BES log), you will probably see a message that includes the line "skipping message". In or near that line you will see a Note ID...something like AF98 or C123B. Copy this Note ID, go into Domino Administrator, select your HOME mail server, select Files, locate the user's database, select "Find Note". Once the Note ID is found, scroll down to the title field to determine which view/message/address entry etc. is causing the problem.

scotth 05-09-2005 01:50 PM

Thank you! Now that we know what message caused the APB, we can't re-create it. Will keep plugging away at it.
Thanks again.

I have also been getting this message..

Is there anyway to filter it so it doesn't get pushed to the handheld..

Its like spamming the freaking device.. I got 50 of the msgs one night..

mkb 05-13-2005 12:11 PM

The message is straight directly to the PIN of the device, so I'm not aware of any way to filter it. If anyone knows of a way, I'd love to hear about it.

SP1 anf HF2 didn't solve this problem

Domino 6.5.3 + BES 4.0 + SP1 + HF2

I just spoke with TSupport and HF#2 for Service Pack 1 was going to be released last week, but it is now set for later this week or early next week. It supposedly "fixes" the issue, but it does not give you the ability to just turn the APB messages off. I wish they would have given us that option, just in case the hot fix doesn't really resolve the issue completely. Either way, I'd encourage anyone else with a TSupport subscription to call sometime this week to try to get the earliest release date possible.
