Out of Memory

Started getting on the Wife's 8800 last night. Noticed she was on Firmware 4.2. Fine updated to 4.5. now she is getting out of memory errors left and right. Saying she has insufficient memory in her BlackBerry. Only third party apps are Facebook,MySpace, Yahoo IM, and Pandora, and BlackBerry Apps store.

I have the same load on my BlackBerry Curve - Any ideas?

Does she use a media card, or is she storing media on the device memory? How much email does she have (with attachments, too)?

jsconyers 04-28-2009 11:35 AM

The 8330 has significantly more memory than the 8830.

She does have a 2 GB Memory Card in it but I can't determine - Can Apps write to Media Card or is it strictly internal Memory?

Wirelessly posted (Hey I'm cool…)

Internal memory on applications.

Apps go to device memory. If she has pictures/ringtones/etc on the device memory, it's best she moves them over to the media card. This will clear up a lot of device memory as well.

Apps on the device. Need to move music, ringtones and photos to the SD card.

Hmmm I woiuld wager to say that might be the issue.

Do you know how much memory comes on the 8800?

juwaack68 04-28-2009 11:51 AM

The 8800 has 64MB of flash memory. To check the 'file free' click on Options -> Status.

jsconyers 04-28-2009 11:53 AM

Press Alt + Caps + H. It will tell you the file total and the file free.

Is it the 8800 or 8830?

Wont know until I get home this evening. She just called me and told me since I worked on it last night nothing else works. ARGH!!!! I told her I had 240 other users right now that are complaining about a Notes to Outlook switch I cant touch hers right now :) As its not in front of me :(

jsconyers 04-28-2009 12:03 PM

Keep us updated.

NVMY03GT 04-28-2009 05:46 PM

Okay got home.. Heres the update - Looks like Free She has 4,089,075 Bytes

File Total is 47,448,064

I took a bunch of pictures and moved them but those stats don't look like its pulling the media card or am I looking at that funny?

jsconyers 04-28-2009 05:50 PM

Try a battery pull and check the file free again. Double check the pictures after the battery pull. Make sure they're on the media card and not device memory.
