OS: 9650 5.0.0.1631/5.0.0.983 (Multilanguage)

Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9650 smartphone
BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1631 (Multilangauge)

Package Version: 5.0.0.1631
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 5.0.0.983
  • Software Platform: 4.2.0.433
  • File name: 9650_512AMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel1631_PL4.2.0.433_A5.0.0.9 83_Sprint_L.P.exe
  • File size: 116.71MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download the OS file here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...BB765225CE8C0E

Instructions for installing either version on ANY carrier's 9650:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

I have never run across this problem. I am getting Error 1500 - another installation is in progress........ when I attempt to run the installer to my pc. Have no idea how to proceed. Ideas?

Reboot your PC, and try again. Make sure Desktop Manager is not running.

Thanks Steve! That did the trick.

Re: Latest OS: 9650 5.0.0.1631/5.0.0.983 (Multilanguage)

Hi all,

I'm switching from Blackberry Curve 8310 with AT&T to Blackberry Bold 9650 with Verizon. I was told I could use the switch devices feature. Should I do that before or after installing the OS? I got mine on Wedesday and it's showing to be v. 5.0.0.975 (Bundle 1600 Platform 4.2.0.424. Thanks in advance!

OK, I deleted the vendor.xml file and I had x'd out of that box. Then I saw the next instruction. When I went back to Program Files, it all looked different and I can't find the file called loader.exe. Any help would be appreciated! Also when I'm plugging the new phone into the computer it's not recognizing it and says drivers have not been properly installed. Should I just delete the download and start over?? Thanks for any help!

Never mind. Decided to be a big girl and try it out myself. Got it done! Only took 20 minutes or so. Now I'm gonna try the Switch Devices wizard and see what happens!

Hi Steve, I got it all done this morning. Very proud of myself. I did have a couple of questions I was going to do a search on. The Precision Today theme seems to have disappeared. I now have the one with the icons on the bottom. I want the one that shows Message, Calendar and Phone. Secondly, when I did the switch devices wizard it did switch over my old AT&T Blackberry email. I would like to delete the account but can't find where to do that. Any help would be appreciated!

I realize I'm posting to myself lol. But wanted to share. I had two questions. Found the answer to one in a post from 2009 and the other I found just by taking another look at the Blackberry. So I'm a happy camper!! (y)
