Hello! Thinking about getting 8703 e

I usually don't post threads like this, but since I am new (will be new?) to BB please forgive me.

I have a Treo 650 which I like, but am thinking about getting a BB.

I like the bigger screen of the BB, and while I wouldn't be a major user of the famous Push email, I could see myself using it more once I find out how much better it is than Treo's mail (which I pretty much don't use.)

I have Sprint and like the idea of the GPS feature of the 8703 e. ( I have no sense of direction!)

Basically I guess what I am asking is what attracted you to BB?

I have searched for information on the OS of BB, but haven't come up with much.

Is is much better than Palm OS?

Sorry for the long post.

Thank you,

Michael

Push email is what makes BB great, imo.

If you don't care about it, you might be disappointed...

I think this question has probably been answered a million times on this board and I think the crowd here is obviously a little biased! ;)

But, being a Treo beta tester and finally leaving after the 650, I would never go back...there is no substitute for the instant email and the bulletproofness (nice word huh???) of the phone.

Of course it depends on what your goals are in a device though!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8703e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

A bb just works...that's how I think of it. It never slows down and never needs a reset. It just works.

Thanks for the replies.

Basically I purchased the Treo 650 because I use the PDA functions a lot.
I'm not a "power user", but I use Memos, Contacts, and Calendar functions the most.

And, of course, the web browser.

The browser on the 650 does seem slow at times.

To me a BB seems, from the little I have researched, to be better at this than Treos.

Thanks again.

As a former Treo user and someone that had tried the Q and other smartphones, I had purposely passed up considering the BlackBerry because the image of the device to me was "Great for email and that's about it. And it's clunky looking".

Then when I saw the new models and especially the 7310c which is shaped like a regular cell phone and not a "brick" I decided to check into the BlackBerry further.

Now after owning the 7130c and a 8700c I can say that these devices are really impressive. Super stable and functional, and most of all the interface is easy to use and they work everytime. This is the first smartphone I have used that does not crash! That alone is worth a tremendous amount to me.

Another really great feature is the ability to have one "inbox" where it shows a record of all my emails, sms messages, mms messages, and phone calls. This provides an easy way to recap the day at any time. It's also a great reminder of who I have not responded to on those busy days when it's hard to keep up with the volume of communications.

Going forward I cannot imagine using anything other than a BlackBerry...

Thanks for the reply.
All these replies have been very helpful. And you all are a friendly bunch too!

Does anyone here use their BB with a Mac?

I just recently purchased an Intel imac.

I will do a search for Mac and BB!!

Thanks.

Get a BB! From a former Treo addict.

Michael,

I was a 650 user for 2 years & after switching to an 8703e last week I cannot believe it took me so long to switch!

I loved my Treo, but people are right when they say the BB is just better. I didn't think I would really use the push email but now I love having my gmail sent immediately instead of waiting for Chatter to pick it up. My BB has never reset either, which always happened with my Treo. I thought I would miss the camera, but have not yet...

I am a Sprint user as well and have been very happy with the network. The browser is soooo much faster on the BB than the 650. I never thought I would have a BB, but bought my fiance a 7130 for his birthday. After seeing the browser speeds and the push email, I had to get one!

I would highly recommend it!!

I went from PPC-6700 (a mess of a phone) to the 8703e. It is rock solid, after a month of this phone and no resets I am beginning to lose my learned-paranoia of freezes etc. instilled in me form my Pocket Piece of Crap 6700. Everything works perfectly. If you like the features it offers, you will be very happy. For me, better late than never to the BB party.

I was wondering about the browser speed, thanks for that info.

I was doing some more research on BB last night and read a bit on the BB Pearl.

But, I don't think I really need a camera, so I'm still leaning toward the 8703 e.

I was a Treo 650 user for over a year and just switched over to BB 8703E with Verizon and I'm very happy with my decision. I use the BB messenger a lot and don't have to pay for the text messaging. The only thing is the learning curve on the function buttons, I sometimes try to change it by tapping the screen. LOL

This was a mirror image on what happened to me last week. Had a treo 650 for 2 years and picked up the 8703e last saturday. After a week using I WILL NOT be going back to the Treo. NO resets!!!! Oh and it works well as a phone as well! :) Bluetooth is amazing. No issues whatsoever. I am officially an addict.

I'm convinced!! Ordered the 8703 e!

I ordered the 8703 e from Sprint today.
Now I have to wait until Wednesday to get it:-(

What an ordeal to order it though.

I called Sprint yesterday to get some info on the BB. While talking to the Rep he said he would waive the Activation fee and give me 10% off my phone bills for the next 2 years.

Well, I go to a Sprint store near me, and they tell me what the Rep did on his end is interfering with their system and they can't place the order.

No big deal, I call Sprint and order the phone, but towards the end of the order the call is dropped!!

So, I had to call later on and order it.

Anyways, thank you for all the helpful replies and I can't wait till my BB arrives.

Thanks.

Thanks,
Jim
