Buying a used Blackberry on Ebay, what is an IT policy?

Hello everyone,
I am well aware of the Blackberry FAQ on buying Blackberry's off ebay Buying a BlackBerry off eBay - BlackBerryFAQ which brings me to these questions, what is an IT policy and how would it affect me and how do I check if the BB has one?
I would say I am a casual user, not going to use the BB for any work related purposes.

I ran a google search and a forum search and I only got the result of a 2005 thread http://www.blackberryforums.com/bes-...lackberry.html which has been closed. I was unable to post in a close thread so I would like an update on this whole IT Policy deal.

Thank you :)

BlackBerry FAQ - BlackBerryFAQ

If the BB that you are about to buy was used on BES, then it is very likely that it had an IT policy installed on it. IT policy is a set of rules that defines how a BB can be used, what updates can be made, and what apps are allowed to run. For example, the company I worked at a while ago did NOT allow use of BBM. Go figure...

You will need to remove it so you have a complete control of the device. To remove:

Be very careful the BB has been removed from service on the BES. Depending on the company and provider, you might find the policy back or use blocked. It needs to be released and then the IT policy removed as suggested above.
Also most carriers now add the Blackberry data plan once a BB is detected and the user has not activated one on the phone. They pick the most expensive plan and you should pick one that best allows you to do what you want. You list a 8100 so I assume your going to transfer the service.

Save your money and buy from a reputable dealer... Not trying to be an a$$. It's just we hear so many ebay stories that end in a bad way.
