Messanger problem...

ive got the 8830 and bb messanger working between me and my wife... im trying to get on of my buddies on here also... i got his pin and sent a request... but then it just says pending... ive tried deleteing it and trying it again but to no avail... ive also had him add my pin and his says the same thing... what are we doing wrong...?
