assign speed dial to 'i' key problem

:cry:I am using a curve 8900
i am not using the holster with it. but use the top button to lock and unlock the phone.
suddenly since this afternoon, everytime i unlock the phone a message comes asking me to assign speed dial to the 'i' key. option for yes and no are displayed but i cannot scroll to select either.
also when typing, the 'i' key does not work, but 'i' keeps appearing in the middle of words on its own even when not needed.
i have done a hard reset and a wipe and the problem still persists.
anyone facing similar problem or has a solution.
really need help.

This is most likely a problem with the "i" key itself. It seems to be stuck in, thus causing the intermittent problems you are describing. (When you hold a key in that is not already assigned to a speed dial in the home screen, the Blackberry will ask if you want to assign it to a speed dial).

This would also explain why the "I" will randomly appear while typing or not work when attempting to type.

You will either need to service the keyboard yourself, take it to an authorized service dealer, contact your carrier for replacement options (warranty replacement if in warranty, out of warranty RMA or upgrade/new phone) or purchase a new blackberry outright.

As an aside, you posted this in the legacy forum, which is designated for blackberry devices which are at their end of life cycle (7290, 8700, 8800 and older). In the future, questions regarding your Javelin (8900) should be directed to the appropriate forum: General 8900 Series Discussion - Javelin - BlackBerry Forums Support Community . You are more likely to get your questions answered by people who use the same device in the forum it's related for.
