Read into that what you will.

What OS version does it have?

I don't think any verison of the 8800 will have WiFi. However the 8820 will have WiFi. All the 8820 will be is the 8800 + WiFi, nothing more. I have a feeling that TMO will hold out for the the 8820 because of their Hotspot @Home sevice that is coming up (I believe the national roll out is this month). The 8300 will be the next cameraberry. The question is will Cingular get an exclusive on the 8820 and the 8300? If they do get an exclusive, I will be holding on to my 8700 a while longer

The camera (with a nice flash than others) is 1280x1024 resolution is a nice feature. The suretype keyboard isn't that bad. I guess I'll hold on to this until April (when I suspect 8800 will be released) and get the 8800 then.

How much is the 8700 going for? I want to sell it.

i sold an 8700 today on ebay for 197.50 & 20 shipping
purchased a 8800 for $450 unlocked and free shipping

Maybe SPineda's rep was talking about the 8300. End of the month for the Daytona on T-Mobile? Just saying it gives me a tingly feeling all over!

As much as Id like to see the next RIM offering at TMO I am in no hurry, still love the 8700. But my Girl wants a BB and Ill be damned if im gonna get the 8700 now with certainly something new coming on the horizon

Where do you live/roam? I would go with a Cingular unit.

Meh -- it's wouldn't be the first time that a store rep has been mistaken... I'm not saying it's impossible but I think that's highly unlikely.

sold my 8700g on ebay for $175 + 25 shipping and got my 8800 for $350. All in all, a pretty sweet deal.

April 9

Based upon what I have read here, I'm predicting 4/9/07.

As of a few days ago, the plan was for T-Mobile to offer the 8800 in mid to late April. From what I can tell, they haven't settle on an exact date yet. But their marketing efforts are being finalized. It shouldn't be too much longer.

jpfchicago 03-12-2007 12:13 PM

I will say that I think T-Mobiles inability to offer the 8800 (or other new models) in a faster manner, impacts the good will that they need to maintain among their customer base.

Galvatron 03-12-2007 12:30 PM

Well part of that is rims exclusivality policy. That an they are puying out the airspace with the 19mhz frequncy fr either hsdpa or wi-fi cingy's suposed toe be aquiring the 850mhz frequency.

I was reading a bit on this yeaterday.

You're forgetting that they had the exclusive release deal on the Pearl and the 7100. They seem to tend to favor exclusives on the SureType models. They're definitely not unable to "offer any new models in a faster manner". They just chose to not jump for the exclusive on the 8800 for whatever reason.

..and what about Verizon, Sprint, Alltel and the other US carriers that aren't Cingular? You didn't mention how their good will among their customer base is affected.

wayneholbrook 03-12-2007 06:18 PM

I was going to buy the 8800 from cing and get it unlocked, but I was told that the software would not be the same for t-mobile when they come out with thier 8800. I also heard that t-mobile's 8800 will have wi-fi. Anyone heard the same?

LunkHead 03-12-2007 06:23 PM

Thats the *rumor*

Galvatron 03-13-2007 01:42 AM

Cdma models get releasesed 6months to a year after the gsm models that's why jus barly a month ago sprint an vorizout started selling them. It took altel a whole year @ leest to get th8703 e

HaTaX 03-14-2007 02:13 AM

I personally would be fine with no camera and only Wi-Fi.. I just want the wi-fi for the T-Mo@Home service.. That's a sweet thing for me... Otherwise I wait patiently with my trusty 7100i waiting for whatever that device may be.. (with all the friggin model # confusion on the new models)

jpfchicago 03-17-2007 12:55 PM

I have been told by another customer that the T-Mobile store in Oak Brook, Illinois, has received a shipment of 8800's. He also told me they are under lock and key and not being offered for sale.
Can anyone verify this?

This is true solely for the reason of carrier exclusivity. When phone specs warrant testing for network compatibility, naturally, additional time is required. If/When Verizon/Sprint get exclusivity, AT&T/TMobile can only choose to wait. Exclusivity happens and no one suffers in the process.
