So how is the 9900 in terms of ringtones and other sounds?

I have a 9000 and I love it, except for the trackball not working most of the time (it gets 'dirty' and a cleaning only lasts a few days). I've had it for nearly two years and all my different message thingies have their own sounds.

I have a ringtone for calls, obviously, and different beeps for MSN Messenger, work e-mail, personal e-mail, BB Messenger and text messaging. I had a 9780 for a few days, and one of the main reasons it went back was that it had about a tenth of the selection in terms of sounds. (I also disliked the smaller keyboard, and OS6 gave me fits.)

I want the 9900 to be ready for NFC, and because the trackball on the 9900 just doesn't work well enough any longer. I guess I'll get used to OS7 or die trying. I read that the keyboard is more like the one on the 9000, which is great.

But the sounds are rather important! How many are there, or is it possible to export the ones in the 9000?

If you can find the old 9000 ringtones online you can download them and import them. The 9900 probably has the same number of ringtones/alert sounds, or darn close.

Here is the URL to download OS5 ringtones directly from your BB Browser:

Got the phone and downloaded the sounds. Excellent!

Now I need to figure out how to get rid of the 'transaction error - failure at service' thing so I can use e-mail and Appworld...

You can browse them by choosing 'All Alerts' at the bottom of the drop down menu when choosing tones. It's a bit annoying the way it works (you'll see), but I just had my 9000 in the other hand and identified them by filename rather than by how they sound.
