GPS clarification - 8520

Hello forum,

I'm new here but am used to posting on other forums, so I know I have to search before posting...

However, with all of my searching, I still don't know the answer to my GPS question.

I have a company provided 8520 device, no frills I know, but I can communicate with people and that's the main purpose.

Firstly, I know GPS is not included within the handset. I was annoyed when I found out, but hey...

My GPS questions is:
Can I use ANY GPS software with my device by using a BlueTooth connection to a GPS receiver?
If so, which BT GPS receivers work and what GPS software/app is compatible?

I just can't find a definitive answer to my questions. I would like to have turn by turn GPS SatNav (like CoPilot/TomTom or similar) on my BB 8520 device.

Will I be disappointed, or can somebody confidently advise me what is definitely compatible?

PS: I'm in the UK, I would like to run mainly UK maps.

Thank you for any advice you can give to me!
Nick.

Check out the "GPS and Mapping" forum which has lots of information specific to GPS.

Since it is a company provided BB, are you using BES?

If so, the IT Policy might restrict what you can and cannot do with the device. Perhaps a chat with your IT Staff would be in order before you try to circumvent company policies?

Thanks for the replies.

I will check out the GPS & mapping forum, I hadn't noticed that.

Regarding BES, I wasn't sure exactly what that was, so submitted 'I don't know' during sign-up, but I my normal GPRS internet connection does pass through our standard internet policy which restricts some websites, but regarding actual phone performance, I don't think we have any other restrictions as far as software/hardware goes.

I've set up personal mail over the air and I can run various apps, etc.

If I exclude the possibility of any restrictions my company may/many not have applied (as if there is a restriction then there is a good chance I could get it lifted), then I re-ask the original question...
(and I will also peruse the advised forum too).

Thank you once again for your responses.

To follow on, the best thread in the GPS & Mapping forum regarding my question is as follows:

This still remains inconclusive of anyone actually achieving what I am asking.

Would anyone know from experience what definitely works with my device?

Thank you.
