Help - can't figure out how to use the 8830 as a wireless modem with MAC
I have an 8830 World Edition and a MacBook Pro. The two devices recognize each other (Blackberry is in discoverable mode and MacBook recognizes the BB) but I can't get it to connect. Each time I try, I get a message saying that there was an "error with the communication device". I don't want to "tether" it, I need to work wirelessly... Any suggestions from anyone? Also, if I'm not going to "tether" do I still need to pay the $15 per month service charge for additional data service? (Verizon is my provider). Thanks in advance for your help!!!

You're trying to tether. Doesn't matter if it's via USB cable or Bluetooth... it's still tethering.
Yes, you need the $15 add-on plan from Verizon. It won't work at all without that plan. http://www.blackberryforums.com/mac-...ry-8830-a.html |
I just helped a friend out with exactly this. She has a MAC and an 8830 from verizon. She was told no way it could be done because she had a mac and not a pc.
Well, i always like a challange :). Got the bluetooth connection working, she had the tethering data service (VZAccess) enabled and it worked like a charm first time. So, yes I can confirm that it does work and through bluetooth as well. You do need the $15 per month (or what ever rip off price it is) for it to work. Good luck. Steve |
...so would that be "unlimited" data?
|
No, it's not considered the unlimited data, it called broadband access connect "tethering". . . and depending on what you are using your blackberry for (44.99 for BES or 29.99 for BIS) tething can either cost $15 or $30.
