Internet not working

Hello All!

I wasn't exactly sure what to name this thread so I just decided to name it this.
What happened yesterday is that I received an old Blackberry Torch 9800 AT&T (Unlocked) from a friend of mine and I decided to put it onto my t-mobile network.
I previously had an Android with unlimited data WITHOUT a blackberry service plan.
I used Host Routing Table to register and it worked, so everything was working such as the Browser, Facebook, Twitter etc.
I then looked at my contacts and realized my friend left all of them on there and instead of deleting them one by one I wiped the phone completely.
Since I did that, now facebook browser and twitter aren't working and I realize that I need a Blackberry plan but I want to know if it's possible to use these services without a plan because that's what I did before I wiped the blackberry.
Also I tried registering it again with HRT but I never get the message.....
Any help/advice will be helpful.

Thanks in Advance

Re: Internet not working

It is not possible to use Facebook and Twitter without a BlackBerry Data Plan.

You had the old service books on there (from your friend). Once you wiped it out, you wiped them out too.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you know if it's possible to get them back?

You will need a blackberry data plan to get them.

Thanks for replying.

Unfortunately I don't want to pay the extra money for the blackberry data plan so I will probably end up using third-party twitter facebook and browser applications.

If you can find some third-party twitter and facebook apps that work on a BlackBerry without a BlackBerry Data Plan please post them back here. Thanks.

....Actually....The new Facebook and Twitter apps, as well as AppWorld all work with no data plan. They have since that last major outage. Was a quiet change RIM made after that.

So, download the latest AppWorld on the 9800 at www.blackberry.com/appworld then download updated versions of Facebook and Twitter from Appworld.

Thanks for the reply John.
I'm aware that they work over Wi-Fi but will they work on my regular data plan (non blackberry plan). Regardless, I'll be trying it right now.

Yeah, that I'm not sure of. They used to not work at all.

Do you still have this Android plan? I'd call up T-Mobile and see if they can make it a BB plan. Many of their plans are cheap and close to the same cost of BB plans.

One other note, if you have an unlimited text plan with T-Mobile then BBM will work without a BB data plan.

Tried what you said, facebook and twitter are still giving me the same "you are currently on a service plan that does not support this application..."
Oh well, I guess i'll just stick to using UberSocial :razz:

I do have the android plan so I may end up switching over to a BB plan. BTW, read your guide and it was great up until step 9 where you select "internet mail account" when I click that, I get "your device had a problem connecting to the server." Any suggestions?

Which guide?

I can tell you that you won't get any Internet email on your BB without a BB data plan.

" Get Your Unlocked 9800 Torch Working on TMobile with Browser, UMA and DM Tethering" That one, and that makes sense I guess. Just didn't want to believe it. :-( It's weird because twitter facebook browser and everything worked before I wiped the phone.... Think it's possible to get them to work again?

Re: Internet not working

My guess is the service books were left over from the last user and didn't delete as they should have. They would have disappeared after a while anyway.

Give T-Mobile a call. Depending on your plan it may be easier/cheaper than you think.

Re: Internet not working

Don't you need the BB dataplan to be able to access AppWorld? Or has that changed too?

John Clark 12-29-2012 06:30 PM

Re: Internet not working

You can download it via wifi and access AppWorld via wifi. I do it all the time with my daughter's 9780 with no data plan.

Hello John sorry for all these questions.

I've got a couple apps to work without a blackberry data plan.
Those apps are UberSocial, Facebook Messenger and Opera Mini. (Over TMobile Network)
Unfortunately every 10-20 minutes or so they all stop working :-( do you have any suggestions or thoughts why this is happening?
The only way I can fix it is by performing a hard reset but that gets annoying to do every 10-20 minutes.
EDIT: And by stop working I mean, Ubersocial will stop receiving tweets, and facebook updates. When I attempt to make a tweet on uber social it will say some Java.io.IO nonsense.
Anything would be great

Thanks in Advance

Re: Internet not working

The only way to make it work is to make sure you have the correct apn for TMobile. Go into Options >type tcp in the search bar open that menu and enter epc.tmobile.com for the apn and leave the password blank.

If it still doesn't work after that then its likely not going to work.

Re: Internet not working

All newer T-Mobile plans work with any smartphone, including BIS/BES access for BlackBerry devices. So unless the OP is on one of the plans, they should be able to move the SIM to a BB, get it registered on the network and start working.

John Clark 12-30-2012 06:34 PM

Re: Internet not working

Yup. It's just not worth the trouble. Just call them up and have them change it to a BB plan and all this will be moot. I'd be willing to bet it doesn't cost you any extra over what you're already paying.
