thanks for the info

The IMAP integration makes me very happy.

akosnitzky 02-20-2009 10:46 PM

It will be interesting to see how BIS OWA users benefit. I am not able to use IMAP on my Corp Acct but do use G-Mail

GRom 02-21-2009 05:46 PM

Thanks for the article link!

Yeah.. BIS with OWA on Exchange 2007 with ISA is the biggest problem. They need to fix that so that I can use my OWA again via BIS.

akosnitzky 02-22-2009 05:14 PM

I am surprised that issue hasnt been resolved. Fortunately, my employers use 2003

How do we know when RIM has rolled this update out to carriers??

You will read about it right here.

Expect it in Europe/Africa/Middle East in a couple weeks, and North America by the end of March.

SteveO86 03-03-2009 09:55 PM

I'm sure the BBOutages page will post something when RIM schedules the upgrade since they will probably have to take a few systems down for the upgrade..

I hope we can see BIS 2.6 by the end of the month IMAP Gmail is something to look forward to :)

(I just hope it acts like my Yahoo account does.)

I read that article... I wonder why the article only mentioned RIM and AT&T... Once RIM flips the switch it effet all carriers.. (Right?)

Doesn't each carrier have to roll it out individually? I don't think its just a flip of a switch at RIM. I think it has to be set up and switched over for each carrier. I could be wrong. I'm just guessing.

BIS 2.5 happened in all in one day I beleive.. Unless they happened to really plan that out really well.

Yes. I also remember the outage coming a week later for both parts of the world.

JSanders 03-18-2009 11:46 AM

The BIS upgrade is a RIM server upgrade, not each carrier.

In late June of last year, if I recall correctly, it was the East Asia/Australia/Pacific region got it first, a couple weekends later for Europe/Africa, and a week later for the US.

So, yes, this weekend, the morning of the Sunday, March 22, we should begin seeing BIS 2.6 enabled. There may be server upgrades on Saturday morning as well.

akosnitzky 03-18-2009 12:38 PM

Resend our service books when its enabled. Correct?

JSanders 03-18-2009 12:40 PM

That is what I understand... can't hurt to delete the presently on your BB before resending, as well.

akosnitzky 03-18-2009 12:42 PM

Am I getting rid of my g-mail filter setting with this upgrade?

We will say goodbye to this link?

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-handheld.html

SteveO86 03-18-2009 05:26 PM

From what I heard we have to remove and then re-add our GMail accounts.

A Simple Re-Send Service books won't do it this time.

You are correct but only for gmail or google-hosted account. You should resend any other service books (or remove/add them).

SteveO86 03-18-2009 07:20 PM

Yea, I'll prob just hit that resend service book after I re-setup the account..

Just as heh, why not gesture :) It can't hurt anything.

akosnitzky 03-18-2009 07:31 PM

Yes but I have the gmail filter setup now. With BIS 2.6, there will be no special improvement.

SteveO86 03-18-2009 08:09 PM

Nope nothing special.. Maybe with BIS 2.7 we will get 2 way sync with GMail!!

I honestly never minded the new messages.. I actually have something set to BCC me on every email sent from BB for my Gmail accts.. Just for my peace of mind to make sure it was sent. (And jsut incase the message didn't make it to my sent box)

Hopefully one day we will have yahoo-like integration with GMail.. but I doubt it. It's not like Google to be like another company... I'd be happy with a more complete PIM sync tool :) .... Or at least with more options (ie. set from device to Gmail, not both).. I don't trust the calendar sync yet..

(I do realize I am asking for A LOT!)

akosnitzky 03-18-2009 08:36 PM

It just that I would expect to see more growth with BIS than what we see so far. I am tired of the 20 min delay with Outlook Web Access if you dont have IMAP

SteveO86 03-19-2009 11:18 AM

That's true, especially with thier push into the consumer market..

I'm sure they want to a keep a big gap between BIS and BES, so it may be nothing more then smart marketing for them.

Dawg 03-19-2009 06:28 PM

I get gmail in far less time than 20 min intervals. I usually get it on my bb before outlook

I agree with you on the PIM stuff. I like (and trust) their calendar sync but not the contacts. If they could at least provide multiple calendar management from the device that would be a major improvement. When 2.6 is up and running I will switch back to use IMAP. One-way sync with instant push is still better than POP.

Raptor464 03-20-2009 06:46 PM

Don't quote me on this, but I hear that most carriers will be updating to 2.6 overnight tonight.

SteveO86 03-20-2009 07:12 PM

I'll be removing and re-adding my GMail account tomorrow morning :)

Does anyone know if, when I setup my GMail app it will default to IMAP or do I have to manually enter the IMAP settings?

Raptor464 03-20-2009 07:48 PM

I'm going to wait until Sunday to attempt any of this.

If 2.6 is implemented then just re-setup your gmail account. It should default to IMAP. You'll know it's 2.6 if a) you don't need to set a sent-mail filter, b) 1-way sync works.

US Cellular To Upgrade BIS 2.6 Tomorrow | BerryReview.com »

SteveO86 03-20-2009 09:00 PM

Wonder why everyone has been blogging this.. as a per carrier upgrade.. and not a BIS upgrade as whole.

I feel like questioning myself...

lol

akosnitzky 03-20-2009 09:04 PM

Well its an overall item but I believe the carriers each setup their own release

tomdkat 03-20-2009 11:30 PM

anyone get any conformation this is going to go live for all carriers?

SteveO86 03-20-2009 11:34 PM

No "official" confirmation but a BIS upgrade is done by RIM not the carriers. So carrier should not matter.. similiar to our last BIS 2.5 upgrade.. But we will find in a few hours.

sugar 03-21-2009 06:49 AM

How do you know when the carrier has upgraded the BIS?

SteveO86 03-21-2009 09:42 AM

Yep.. Re-setup my GMail account... Read some emails on my BlackBerry and it was marked as read in GMail in about 5/10 seconds.

Cool.. Now let's ask for 2-way sync.

Yep works for me too. Now only if Mail.app on my Mac would sync back with that read status from Gmail/Google Apps :-(

Raptor464 03-21-2009 09:50 AM

Same here, just re-setup my gmail and noticed the changes.

tsduke03 03-21-2009 10:01 AM

"One-way synchronization of read status, sent items, and deleted items"

I'm puzzled. I could have sworn that all this has been working for me all along.

SteveO86 03-21-2009 10:27 AM

GMail supported IMAP a while back... but it was very flaky and "unsupported" on BlackBerries, priop to BIS 2.5 I stuck with POP access due to delays and the fact sometime it would sync unread/read messages.

Raptor464 03-21-2009 10:28 AM

Confirmed, no more workarounds/filters. I think I can finally get rid of that gmail application as well.

I setup imap manually on my carries bis page in July 08 and haven't had any issues. Only complaint is the reads and deletes not syncing from server to bb.

Considering when I got my bb, I would assume bis 2.5 is all I've used until now.

zerog46 03-21-2009 10:32 AM

Working great sweet, no more delays.

I believe this is only a feature of BES. BIS 2.6 only allows 1-way sync for IMAP. Meaning from BB to Server, not the other way around.

Yep works as advertised on gmail and google app accounts. One-way instant sync, no need for sent-mail filters, instant push.

I am new to bb...so forgive me if I just do not get this about 2-way and bes vs bis. Why does my yahoo em sync 2-way (pretty instantaneous also) to my bb and gmail does not??? I am on bis only.

Btw how do I do this gmail upgrade? I go to my sprint.blackberry.net acct, delete my gmail acct, re-add it, then for safety sake re-request service books to be sent, on my bb for safety sake do the battery pull. Do I have this (steps) all correct?

All you really need to do is delete your gmail account on your BIS site, then add it again, that's it.

PapiPabs 03-21-2009 12:46 PM

Has anybody else noticed their BB Maps icon missing after resending their service books to take advantage of the BIS upgrade? It's still listed under Options->Advanced Options->Applications, and the service book for BB Maps is still there...just no icon. I've tried a custom theme and it still won't show. Just found it odd.

Also, are you not able to edit your email signatures from the device (as was stated would be possible with 2.6) if you've already created a user account on BIS (not using automatic login through Personal Email Setup)? Changing sigs is still not an option for me at this point. On a side note, I did see the option to "show password" at first when I deleted and recreated my Gmail account on the device, but I don't see it anymore when I edit the account and scroll down to the password field. I get the feeling I've probably missed a step somewhere...

EDIT: Looks like the "show password" option only shows up on the initial setup of the account. Scratch that one from the record! LOL

SteveO86 03-21-2009 01:05 PM

Hmmm I've still got my BB Maps icon.

Your right about the signature thing. I can't edit it from my BlackBerry..

Sooo basically I've got no new useful functionality and I've lost my BB Maps icon...thanks RIM! Great update! LOL

It may be an "AT&T figuring out what was up and hiding it again" thing, but perhaps I'll try a downgrade-then-upgrade and see if the icon comes back. Not a huge deal if it doesn't since I've got Google Maps installed, but knowing that it's there and I can't see it/figure out how to get the icon back will kill me!

Thanks for confirming.

winger13 03-21-2009 01:35 PM

I still have my bb maps icon.

and when i delete from the desktop (googlemail), still does not delete from BB (still not good).

Yes, almost instant bing when gmail receives email !

So, when gmail mail arrives, why is red astericks only showing next to my BB's Message Center icon and NOT the Gmail icon (it used to do both) ?

1) Yes I get the icon as well
2) I think it only does the reverse. Delete from BB will delete from desktop
3)yes

PapiPabs 03-21-2009 04:12 PM

I managed to get the BB Maps icon back by restoring the service books from a backup I did at the beginning of this month. Just as a test, I logged in to my BIS account on my PC and resent service books with BB Maps open, and as soon as the service books were pushed it popped up a message saying "Maps has been disabled".

It looks like my prior suspicions were probably right...AT&T caught wind of people using BB Maps on their devices and put the kibosh on the operation via a change in the service books. You know, just when you get your head above the water, they push you back under!!! Hahaha...

VZ overcharges - everyone knows that, but what you get in return is a reliable network and good cust service. It's like buying a lexus, very similar car to a camry, but cust svc and the experience is what you are paying for (aside from maybe a slightly better car?).

If this is the way it is supposed to be, then BIS when it comes to push mail is a rip off when you consider my buddies on Palm are getting full two-way push (IMAP) mail with google and a few other email services for what, price of the 3+ year-old chattermail client? And folks on Win Mo devices can get free (at least now w/ beta) Seven client and do the same with yahoo, hotmail and gmail?

So, is BB using simply using the 'excuse' that 2-way only works with BES b/c they have not worked out the kinks with hotmail and google (and others)? I ask b/c Yahoo mail is full 2-way w/ BB. And BB is known as the premier email/messaging pro (and consumer) device in the industry, maybe I am just expecting a bit more from them.

Stinsonddog 03-21-2009 08:09 PM

Yes BIS is well just BS - oh I mean BIS. When you have both, nothing compares to BES.

Good call. The BB Maps deal is AT&T. I wish that RIM had come through on letting BIS users change the email signatures for their accounts through the device though.

Hahaha...nah. I'm loving the Bold way too much to even consider a switch. Google Maps seems like a better app anyway. I just needed to find the reason the icon wasn't showing up so the issue wouldn't be hanging over my head!

Could.. However we have alot more stability then Win Mo.. At least in my expereince... Eventually I'm sure we will get GMail similiar to that we do with Yahoo..

But hey... before we had 0 way sync with Gmail/POP Access now we have 1 Way/IMAP..

It's an improvement at the very least.

GMail Sent Mail Showing up in Inbox, Again

Due to BB issues, we been testing for past 4 hrs or so. During that time, I noticed sent gmails are again showing up in the inbox, but only for one of my gmail accts (out of three gmail accts).

anyone seeing this?

NEVER MIND, DELETED THAT ONE GMAIL ACCT FROM BOTH BB'S AND RE-CREATED. WORKS OK NOW

mas90guru 03-22-2009 06:11 AM

There should be an option for Gmail users who delete emails to have it saved in the "All" email folder which is the way most Gmail users manage their mailbox.

This BIS upgrade is barely qualifying of an upgrade title.

I've also found that the BIS 2.6 upgrade no longer detects Google Apps for Domains accounts - I've had to set mine up manually for T-Mobile and AT&T.

Previously this would detect my email even though it wasn't an @gmail.com domain.

I had no problem setting up my google-hosted domain on 2.6 - it defaults to IMAP.

Both my AT&T and T-Mo refused to automatically setup despite half a dozen attempts both via device and web.

Now that I think about it, I set up a gmail account on a friend's 8900 running on a TMobile BES on Friday morning.
I got all the new gmail set-up screens and, when he tested it and sent me an email, he did not get any copy of the message he sent.
Could it be that 2.6 was already running?:-o

I am using IMAP. I know I am in 2.6. I just added back my g-mail acct. I will send a message from my BB and it will show in gmail. When I delete on the BB, the sent item remains. What am I doing wrong?

In your gmail folder, go to options/Email Reconciliation/Delete On and selcet your choice

Thank you. I had reconcile on.

SteveO86 03-22-2009 04:20 PM

I don't think it will delete from the Sent Items folder in GMail only the Inbox folder.. For BIS we have only had Inbox reconcilation nothing else :(

At least that is how I think it's suppose to work.

So I deleted and re-added gmail on both mine and my wife's BB's and it seems to be working....read messages and deleted messages on the BB sync after a few seconds (deleted items always synced for us before). And I no longer need my Sent Items filter. But interestingly, if I send myself a message from my gmail account to my gmail account, the message doesn't appear on my BB (it does show up in my web Inbox). Maybe google basically built in the sent items filter for us. Not a big deal but was just using that as a test to see if the behavior was different than it used to be. Overall push speed seems comparable to the way it was before (maybe a few seconds slower).

Tries to send an email to myself and indeed, did not receive it.

Gmail sent items showing up in inbox, again!

UPDATE: the Gmail acct is NO LONGER sending copies of the outbound emails to the inbox.

Hmmmm, so sporadic. :-/

My guess is that the BIS upgrade maybe came in waves through the carriers

I had this issue with yahoo. But it would happen every few weeks. There is obviously a bug and we may have exhausted the workarounds

Has anyone noticed that in BIS 2.6 Yahoo reconcilation for read/unread/delete from the web interface to the blackberry is delayed up to 1 minute? Before the upgrade it was instant 2-3 seconds. I deleted and re-created it in the new BIS but it still delays. Email delivery is as instant as before.
