The iPad is (NOT) Garbage

New thread now that the iPad is actually out and in the grubby paws of a few select BBF members.

Who has one and what do you like/love about it?

I'm liking the snappy performance, the great native mail app, the battery life, ultra-responsive touch screen, Evernote app & Twitterific app.

Not liking the absence of multi-tasking. And where are the native weather, calculator, clock and stocks apps? (all are on the iphone???)

Wirelessly posted (well lookie here!)

Haven't seen one yet! But I do want to check it out! Not sure I need it or if it will meet my needs but worth checking out imho!

Got to play with a co-worker's for a bit today. Neat little device, reacts very nice, typing not so bad (in landscape mode).

We'll be getting in a couple at work to test drive (me first!) when the WiFi+3G models come out - they are already ordered....just waitin.

NJBlackBerry 04-12-2010 08:49 PM

It's cool. It's snazzy. It's fast.
Everyone wants it; no one needs it.

No Flash? Bummer, yet liveable
No camera? Who cares.
Free apps galore (including time and weather - they have this App Store thingy which is great).
No printing? So what.

Now, a big problems for me is that it requires more power than a standard USB port (PC, laptop) can support. Apple decided that the USB specification was not to their liking. So, I can only charge the iPad with the wall adapter, which can be inconvenient.

Why not use the iPhone or iPod Touch adapter? Oops; they don't work.

And I LOVE the iPad. Great e-mail app; typing (landscape mode) is great, web browsing is wonderful and reading eBooks has never been better .

Yup... NJ hit the nail on the head.... I have had mine for about a week now and love it.... Hardly ever even touch my laptops anymoe unless I am doing something Ubuntu wise that needs more power....

I am loving it.... It has a few quirks as NJ stated but the only thing I wish it had that it does not is printing ability..... Multiple tasking would also be nice but lack of printing would be my only gripe at this point...

NJBlackBerry 04-13-2010 10:18 AM

Printing doesn't bother me - I mail files back and forth. Charging is my #1 issue...

ArgonNJ 04-13-2010 11:15 AM

I imagine printing will be addressed in the near future.

So you're gonna need another computer to receive the document to be printed right? I guess that's not a deal killer but it's a little weird they didn't include that.

NJBlackBerry 04-13-2010 02:16 PM

Of course I haven't found a need to print yet...

I have to give it to apple The iPad is def a major step in the tablet industry , the funny thing is that a lot of pc makers could have made something like this but were to afraid and waited for someone to try it and they see it is doing well and they are going to do it . To all the people who hate the iPad. First of all you can not judge something after playing with it for an hour . I got mine to play with it and I was going to decide after a week if I am going to keep it or not. And I have to say this thing is a keeper . I also have the 3G on order once that one comes in I will be handing this one over to my parents :)

Pros:
1. The typing is amazing on it fast and smooth even faster then desktop
2. The screen is great who cares about highdef
3. The Internet works great no connection issues
4. Connected the iPad via MyWi and it works great on the iPhone 3G and 3GS
5. Most apps work great .
6. Sound is loud for music and video playback
7. Battery life is well over 10 hrs when you have the screen brightness at half
Cons:
1. Again some people did not like the idea of not being able to print
2. I am with two damn laptops that I most likely will never use lol time to hit eBay

On a serious note. If you are not hung up on the whole flash and printing thing this is a great device to do some serious amount of emails and web surfing and some word and excel editing . I am using documents to go and quick office they are both great . Hope this helps out if your thinking about getting one . I am typing this on my iPad lol

I thought I'd let any Canadian fans know that Rogers will be providing service to the iPad in the future.

As for the plans, that hasn't been released yet.

I should at least be allowed to print OTA to my network printer... I can do this from my Macbook pro, my imac, and my Linux boxes..... Why not the iPad???

Odd....

Odd....

Apple has always left out simple little things on their hardware. Whether it be omitting certain ports or a simple lack of printing in the ipad, something is always missing.

The portable form factor and the easily accessible screen estate make them prime candidates for professions that require data retrieval on the go. i expect them to be a hit with sales people, medical personnel, engineers, surveyors, stock/inventory control, law firms etc.

It really has potential giving access to information in a far more readable and usable way far better than a miniature cell screen ever would.

I found a way to print on the ipad

Hahaha... Classic....

Turbinator 04-25-2010 11:41 AM

Just posted this in another thread, so apologies, but I wanted to comment here as well. Have an iPad, tried to tether it to my Blackberry 8320, the BB can see the iPad and vice versa, but the iPad doesn't do anything with the BB device. Very strange - I think it's Apple's way of intentionally locking users out from being able to make calls or do anything useful with a tethered phone - since their 3G version is coming out shortly.

Come again.... Over.....

Noodle22 04-27-2010 08:19 AM

I have found that the plans will be released end of May for the iPad. I wonder what they will be like, or if they will be as rich as the AT&T ones? I doubt it, 29.99 for unlimited is quite rich.

kathrynhr 05-05-2010 07:15 AM

I would never buy a device of this size and type that did not offer handwriting recognition.

They should come back and see me once that's implemented, and then we'll talk. :-)
