Blackberry Bold: 10/17 for real on AT&T?????

Hey folks,

So we have this date, based on a 10/16 "Launch Party" in NYC on our hands, for possible availability on 10/16, or 10/17. Is this true to your knowledge, folks?? Please advise! ;)

JvKintheUSA 10-11-2008 07:00 AM

who knows...

ifonline 10-11-2008 07:07 AM

Nobody knows. It was supposed to be end of September, then October 2. Now, the 16th, 17th, 28th... maybe November 1. Maybe by Christmas. Maybe 1Q next year.

d_fisher 10-11-2008 07:21 AM

I think it would be logical to assume that AT&T is doing everything they can to release it befor the Christmas shopping blitz. Would be nice if it comes next week. But I am not holding my breath any more.

NJBlackBerry 10-11-2008 08:08 AM

10/17? I'll take the over.

JSanders 10-11-2008 08:23 AM

And another AT&T launch party on the 30th... so why would AT&T launch the Bold on the 17th--before its remaining launch parties.

Doubtful.

ifonline 10-11-2008 08:48 AM

Agreed. I am thinking November if everything is ready. December isn't so far-fetched either, considering the history of this device with AT&T. I am very happy to have gotten a Rogers Bold... my stress level has dropped significantly!

They can release it next year for all I care. Actually, they SHOULD wait till next year to make sure all the bugs are worked out. :-)

November 1st!

I agree with the guys upthread that we shouldn't expect a release until after the last launch party, which I understand is on the 30th of this month. But I also suspect that RIM and ATT don't want to have gone this far on the Bold, yet lose the Christmas shopping season on what is slated to be one of RIM's flagships. That puts the day at very early November.

My only question is why are the launch parties so far apart? If the device is ready for a launch party on the 16th (and by implication ready to be "launched"), why not start selling it immediately, instead of waiting 2 weeks or more (especially since RIM is getting pummeled in the stock market).

BTW, the 16th is perfect for me, as that is the date that my ATT contract allows me to reup with a discounted unit. Plus my old 8800 is getting balky with resentment at the overuse and abuse I've been giving it. I was figuring I was going to have to threaten ATT with jumping ship back this summer if they wouldn't discount my Bold.

Well, that was the thought about the MUCH-delayed release of the Treo 750. It got released on January 6, 2007, when virtually all other carriers around the world had released it in September and October of 2006, ahead of the shopping season. This is the same nonsense with the BB Bold.

And what is with all of these "launch parties". I'll throw a party if AT&T will only just get it to me.

I started a poll in a different forum, in order to find out how happy/unhappy Canadians are with their Bold's on Rogers. It was overwhelming. Over 93% (and a lot of people voted) either LOVED the device (82%), and the rest at least LIKED it ok. They all said that the initial firmware had problems, but with the latest one, all seems to be very well up North!

Oh well...My Treo Pro is en route, and will either be delivered today, or Monday at the latest. That will be one NICE holdover device. (y)

My AT&T Corporate Account rep advised me the launch date is Monday October 27th.

Hey, happy birthday! I say that now because I have a horrible memory. As a matter of fact, I forget what I was typing just now.
