Extending the ring time

Greeting Blackberry afficionados.

I'm hoping someone can help me out with this one.

I've recently bought a new Blackberry. I wanted to extend the ring time before my answer phone kicks in. I rang my carrier and they had no idea, so told me to consult the instruction manual. There's nothing of the sort mentioned in there, so if anyone knows I'd be greatful.

Blackberry Bold
Carrier is Orange (UK)

Cheers,
Mike

This is set by your carrier, not on the device. You can maximize the time you get by choosing a long ringtone, like a song, but the time limit is set by Orange.

You need to specifically as your carrier to extend to your "time until voicemail picks up" on your line. Most carriers set that to 15 seconds, routinely, but will bump it up to 30 seconds max.

It's easy with ATT

With many carriers it is easy to change. With AT&T, you dial:

*61*XXXXXXXXXX**N#, where XX's are your phone number, and N is the number of seconds (from 5 to 30) you want it to wring before going to voicemail.
I have a contact setup called answerlength. I have two phone numbers in it, one with the above setup for 10 seconds, and the other with 30 seconds. When I am in a meeting or movie, and I have the phone set to silent or vibrate, I use the 10 second ring to voice mail. I have these numbers assigned to keys L (for long), and S (for short). Then I just hold the key down for a few seconds and it changes my ring to voice mail length. Other codes:
GSM NETWORK CODES

Hi there, I work for Orange and might be able to help.

temoore is correct. I have double checked the info we have for the Bold and it suggests-

Line One: **61*Divert No.*11*N#, Send/Call.

Couple of things to note - the divert number would be 07973100123 and it is up to 20 seconds, therefore you would enter-

**61*07973100123*11*20#, then press the Send/Call button

Hope this helps,

Jonathan

Same information here in our FAQ.
Increase amount of rings before voicemail - BlackBerryFAQ

Just sometimes for a noobie user, it is easier to tell them to call their carrier for the extension.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Johnathon, I've used the the line you suggested and it's worked perfectly. Thanks for the response.

Cheers,
Mike

Does anyone know how to do this with O2?

GMeanie 03-06-2009 12:30 PM

Not sure if the above code would work with O2 or not, but going from the responses above, it sounds like each carrier should be able to supply you with a code to do this. I'd suggest giving them a call, hopefully you wont get someone who tells you to consult the instruction booklet :)

Many thanks
