I have the 8830 and I can not get messenger to work. I tried requesting contacts via email and they never get the request. I also tried to download messenger and it says my phone is not capable of downloading messenger. I do not understand I am assuming it is already on there???? :?

You should already have BBMessenger on your device. You need to request messenger contacts via pin. It works much better that way. Make sure you have your buddy's pins in your address book. Then In BBMessenger select "Add a contact." When it takes you to your address book, highlight the contact (don't click on it with the trackball) and hit the menu key (left of trackball) and select "PIN."

how do you and where do you download the messenger program from?
Any link you could provide?

John Clark 01-21-2008 09:39 PM

Unless you deleted it from your Blackberry, it's already there.

if you deleted it then you need to do this:

I hope you didnt delete it. that makes it a pain. You might just have it not showing or hidden also? could be.

It may also be in a folder.

here is the error message I'm receiving:

Sorry, your device does not meet the system requirements that are needed to support BlackBerry Messenger.

As I've posted above, you cannot download BBMessenger directly to your device.

Please look in Options >Advanced Options >Applications and see if it's listed there. If it is, please post what the version number next to it is.

now its installed :)
When I go to add a new messenger contact, it puts the contact in pending
When I go to select a contact it shows up as *empty*

SheepDog 01-21-2008 10:03 PM

yep and will until you get some pins in there.

John Clark 01-21-2008 10:04 PM

The person on the other end must accept the invitation first. It only works Blackberry to Blackberry. Did you add using the PIN option like I suggested above?

bballmom 01-22-2008 10:09 AM

Thanks for all your help.....now when I get in there and try to add a contact it only prompts me to use email....where do I use a pin???

John Clark 01-22-2008 10:54 AM

As I said above, when it takes you to your address book for a contact, DON'T click on the contact. Just highlight the contact and hit the menu key and you will get the option for email or pin. You have to have that contacts pin in your address book first, though. If you highlight the [use once] line and hit menu you will get the option for email or pin.

I have been trying this for a few days. My friend and I have both tried and we are both seeing PENDING but nothing more happens. What are we missing?

gameboy213 01-27-2008 05:55 PM

Do you have a bb data plan?
