[2004-10-26] LexisNexis Enables Research for the Mobile Lawyer

Quote:

Continuing its innovation in providing and delivering authoritative content and integrated information services to the legal community, LexisNexis U.S. today announced the availability of LexisNexis content to attorneys and law firms through the BlackBerry® wireless platform, developed by Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX; RIM). LexisNexis is a leading provider of legal, news and business information services.

With this latest phase of wireless delivery options, legal professionals now can search the LexisNexis® service and access LexisNexis® Publisher topics from their BlackBerry Wireless Handheldsxxx8482; devices that continue to demonstrate great popularity among law firms and attorneys. Previous announcements have highlighted the ability to proactively search, refine and edit results sets from more than 14,000 information sources in the LexisNexis service, via BlackBerry. LexisNexis information available includes full-next news, business, legal, public records, and regulatory and legislative information sources.

"Mobile technology has raised the bar for attorneys, allowing them to leverage wireless technology to improve communication with key clients, gain a strategic advantage in trials, keep current with breaking news and case activity, and increase productivity and billable hours," said Lou Andreozzi, president and CEO, North American Legal Markets, LexisNexis. "With the help of our comprehensive offering of LexisNexis legal, news and business information via BlackBerry, law firms and attorneys can stay one step ahead of the opposing counsel, no matter where they are."

With access to the LexisNexis service via BlackBerry, litigators can function efficiently while away from their desk. For example, while out of the office and in the courtroom, litigators can:

Quickly respond to opposing counsel arguments with on-the-fly review of cases cited.

Shepardize® cases cited to check their validity, research federal and state laws, and more.

Turn court recesses and other downtime into productive, billable hours.

Receive e-mail notifications of new cases and of new activity in cases of interest with LexisNexis® CourtLink®.
For current LexisNexis subscribers, there is no additional charge to access LexisNexis content via BlackBerry. In addition, special search interfaces created for BlackBerry are customized by task for ease of display when getting a case, searching news content and more.

The integration of the LexisNexis service and BlackBerry is an example of the superior products and services provided by LexisNexis as a complete platform of offerings for clients that go beyond just legal research. Included are tools for knowledge management, electronic filing and court access, client acquisition and retention, electronic discovery, time and billing management, disaster recovery and system hosting capabilities.
