pearl update?

I am surprised there hasn't been much talk about a pearl update:?

NJBlackBerry 12-07-2008 09:38 PM

Why? The 8220 is a Pearl update.

Understood and thank you. Maybe my statement was clear. I just assumed there would be Niagara, Javelin Pearl 3 or 4 talk.

I am with VZW as well.

NJBlackBerry 12-07-2008 09:46 PM

Wow. Maybe it could be a StormPearlJavelinNiagaraPearl.

akosnitzky 12-07-2008 09:50 PM

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

:-) or a 9130

NJBlackBerry 12-07-2008 09:51 PM

Ah yes - those 30s. Hey, Verizon just released the Storm (poorly). Give them a 6 month break before the next :-) (yes, the next one will be before then, probably).

I may have to jump carriers because I am not big on the touchscreen and I am envious of seeing a 9000 model in your profile.

I have had a Pearl for almost 2 years, but I am always intrigued by the new devices coming out. I played with a Bold at the AT&T store the other day. The updates are nice, but I prefer my Pearl 8110 for the small form factor alone. I also like the non-grainy, smooth, tight trackball on the Bold. Now if RIM came out with a new Pearl with the Bold OS software, new browser interface, high resolution screen, etc, I would be all over it. What are the odds of this happening? And I am not talking about the Flip 820.

NJBlackBerry 12-12-2008 07:53 AM

But the Flip 8220 is EXACTLY what you are asking about. 4.6 software. Same (identical) screen.

I don't want a flip phone. I want a candy bar phone like my 8110 with all the new updates.

NJBlackBerry 12-12-2008 09:28 AM

It would make sense that RIM updates the line with the new technology (memory, camera, OS)...

I think the 8900 will be a great update for a Pearl user who doesn't want a flip. All the great updates that you look for and a small form factor (only about one centimeter wider than the Pearl).

NJBlackBerry 12-12-2008 10:30 AM

One centimeter wider?
I held one and it is much wider than a Pearl.

According to the comparisons page on blackberry.com, the Pearl is 1.97" wide, the Curve is 2.36" wide, and the 8900 is 2.4" wide. My metric may be off, but I think it is quite a bit wider. It's even wider than the 8320 Curve.

It's an upgrade to the Curve, not the Pearl.

341EastOf 12-12-2008 10:52 AM

Ok, using the specs you provided, the 8900 is about .43 inches wider than the Pearl. That equals 1.09 centimeters. Gee, sorry that I was a whole .09 centimeter off in my posting.

Also, I realize that the Curve is an upgrade to the CURVE! I was only suggesting it might be good option for a Pearl user who wants newer hardware and still a smaller device.

NJBlackBerry 12-12-2008 10:54 AM

I said my metric was off. Centimeters, millimeters. I deal in inches :-)

The 8900 is ever larger than the 8320. I don't see how it is a Pearl replacement....

It's smaller than a Bold - for sure - but not small compared to a Pearl.

Exactly. Bring on the next generation Pearl.
