Blackberry Curve will be able to record video with OS v4.3.1
I just saw video on crackberry.com that the new Curve OS 4.3.1 will have software to record video, which those of us with Curves already will be able to have once we upgrade to new OS. The video shows him actually testing it on his own Blackberry curve so we know it will work. He said that the software will be out before end of year...anyone know specifically when it will be out?

I have seen other threads that state that beta versions are floating around, but I didn't see any concrete release dates.
|
I figured...wish I could get my hands on it. when I looked further into the site, I read this:
"In terms of release date, before the end of the year is the plan. 4.3 will be available to all devices from the 8700 and up. The Curve gets Video Recording and Voice Recording, the 8100 Pearl just gets Voice Recording (no video recording from what I can tell at this point), and I'm guessing that will be the case with the 8700/8800 too since they don't have cameras! Lots of exciting little refinements! Stay Tuned for more..." I wonder if it will allow you to store video recordings to the media card... |
I think the media card would be the only place to store it. Well the only good place. It would be a pretty useless feature if u couldnt.
|
It is unknown when this update will be available. By the end of the year is pretty optimistic, though.
|
yes apparently you cant even record video unless you have a micro sd card in your device.
it be nice to get it before the end of the year (dec is what ive been told) but those things can always change. |
I am hoping it is before Christmas so I can catch Santa going up the chimney ala video record from my curve.
|
I'm really looking forward to it.
|
Won't it be up to the individual carriers to release their own flavor? Maybe they meant the carriers would have it by year's end. No way to predict when T-Moible, et al will get it to the public.

To answer some of the questions, you will need a memory card to use the video recorder (without one, it pops up a warning message and puts you back on the home screen after selecting OK (only option)). If this thing is ready for release within two months, I'd be very surprised. It has taken them a bit over a month to update from version 4.3.1.7 to 4.3.1.14, which is still very buggy (for example, you cannot open attachments). For AT&T (likely others as well), on these beta versions of OS 4.3.1, the Internet Browser will not display, despite having the service book; if you're on a BES, then the MDS browser will work just fine. The target date for this OS update might be late December, but I think the more realistic timeframe would be late January (at some point before late February, which is when BES 4.1 SP5 will be released). Hope that helps. |
Totally awesome! Thanks a ton for the confirmation and "evidence"!! I was soo hoping this wasn't just another baseless rumor.

Any chance the new upgrade will enable my Curve (getting tomorrow) to use a SDHC card? I just sold my N95 and was hoping to use the 6gb card in the Curve.
|
I hope this is true. I'm not getting my hopes up. I was kind of thinking RIM held off on adding the ability to capture video in hopes of enticing people to buy new phones.
