The best way of migrating and upgrading?
Hello,
We are currently running a single BES server, on version 4.0.7.8. Due to hardware issues on the server (lack of memory and age), I need to move the BES services and database (currently on MSDE) to a new server. After speaking with orange support, my first plan has been shot down in flames. I was hoping to install the upgrade BES software (version 4.1.2) onto a virtual server using a temp SRP key , migrate the users across and then migrate the database. From what I have now been told, I cannot use Microsoft Virtual server, I cannot get a temp SRP key and I will need to upgrade the current BES server before I start the migration. So, does anyone have any advice on what is the best way to migrate the BES services and database, keeping downtime to a minimum (couple of hours over the weekend is not an issue) and avoiding having to reactive the 27 handhelds we currently have. Thanks |
You can't do what you are thinking. Here are your 2 choices.
1. Cutover BES 4.0 to new hardware. Then upgrade to 4.1. 2. Upgrade to BES 4.1 then cutover to new hardware. |
x14 is correct.
I recommend option 2. Upgrade existing to what you want, then perform a knife-edge cutover. |
BES 4.0 and Exchange divorce
Need to migrate BES 4.0, currently installed on our exchange server (6.5) . onto a standalone server. Patching issues with current configuration- it sort of breaks things causing a potental resume producing event. I've got BB's cutover to another server doc, but I'm a bit standoffish about ripping the BB DB from my exchange server. I'm to the point of moving the DB to the new server, but not sure how to do it correctly. thinking about calling BB, but if someones has done it already that would be better.
Thanks, db |
