What Does This Symbol Mean?

I have had a Storm since December and love it - no complaints. I have figured out or read literature to identify every symbol on the phone that I have run across except one. When sending an SMS on VZW, right after I hit send to the left of the message in the send/receive list there appears three symbols one after another. I have figured the first two out, but the third eludes me. The first symbol is three succeedingly larger arcs convex to the right. That means that the SMS is being sent. That is then replaced by a check mark which signifies that the SMS has successfully been sent. That is then sometimes, but not all of the time replaced by a check mark with a small upper case 'D' in the valley of the check mark. Anyone know what that symbol signifies?

D = Delivered.

Thank you. I thought that was what it might mean. Do you think it signifies just delivered or actually opened on the other end?

Just Delivered. BlackBerry Messenger offers Read confirmation... but SMS does not.
