No BB Maps on desktop, service books & BB data plan present...

Hi there!

I recently upgraded my data plan to a genuine BB data plan. I run the OS 4.5.0.174 on my BB and I have Blackberry Maps installed. There is also an item in my service book entries that reads as follows:

Code:

Record Type: Active
Name: BlackBerry Maps
UID: LBS
CID: LbsConfig
User ID:-1
DSID:
Gateway IP: blah blah blah\blackberry.net|GPAK
Description: BlackBerry Maps - EMEA

I suppose that one is for the Maps. But still, I cannot see the Maps icon on my desktop. I also verified with my carrier, they assured me that they do not block the use of BB maps by deliberately hiding the maps icon from their subscribers desktops... However, they suggested it might have something to do with my BB being unable to work in UMTS data networks. My pearl only supports EDGE high speed data networks but Vodafone does not, at least here in Germany.

Could that indeed have something to do with that or is something else wrong?

Could it be hidden or in another folder - Applications or Downloads perhaps?

I have no such folders on my desktop... However, BB Maps is listed in the Application list of my device. But still nothing on the desktop :(

Anyone? I have even tried the instructions in the 'How to get BBMaps to show up your device?' article in the BB FAQ, but no luck - there are no references to xxx8220;_vendorID=...xxx8221; or device codes in the lbs.alx file on my computer...

Any help, please

Might want to try a search and look in the GPS and Map section. There have some similar questions recently about it on other devices, mainly the 9700 I think.

Alright, I did some searching, and it has been suggested that one should try downloading some maps for blackberry maps, after which it should work. But where can I find these maps for BB maps? I tried the search feature on mobile.blackberry.com but all it gives me is the help for maps, which I can also find on my device. Where can I download maps for BB maps, or is BB maps a pure online-service?

Anyone?
