Anyone making a car mount that operates like a cradle (charge in the base)?
I'd love to find a car mount kit for the 9700 that would allow me to slip my phone into a cradle from the top (like the desk cradle charger) --maybe with an extended holding base so it doesn't move around with car motion. I remember seeing something online once like this but I can't seem to find it now...
I'm imagining something like this: http://www.perpetualjon.com/files/bold2holder01.jpg I could just slip the phone in from the top and the friction alone should hold the phone in place without the need for a clip over the top of the phone. I'd just need to make sure "bedside mode" is turned off (unless I'm driving at night). No need for a little cable to slip around from the side and hit the micro-USB connector this way. You guys think this could be a good device? |
Proclip makes good device holders and have an "active" holder for the 9700.

this design will damage/scratch your phone already the first time you slip it in !!!!

because there is no cradle connection otherv than the USB connection to charge the phone !!!

I'd say this is the one you want. It will not jump around loosing contact with the bottom charging contacts. My desktop cradel works the same way, I do not have a scratch on it. I always use my BT headset or I would buy this one.

The little silver contacts on the bottom of the phone are charging contacts.

The ProClip mounts are great. I have used them with every BlackBerry I have owned so far. I doubt that this mount would scratch up your handset. Also, you can pick from several different mounting options, and then just get the device holder you want. You don;t even need to use a ProClip mount, any mount with the standard ANSI hole pattern will work. I use mine with a PanaVise mount.
