OS: 9780 6.0.0.1879/6.0.0.448 (Multilanguage)

Software For BlackBerry® Bold™ 9780 smartphone
This release will work on any carrier's 9780 device by following the directions below.
BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.1879 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 6.0.0.1879
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 6.0.0.448
  • Software Platform: 6.5.0.136
  • File name: 9780M_PBr6.0.0_rel1879_PL6.5.0.136_A6.0.0.448_3_UK .exe
  • File size: 172.96MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download the OS file here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...FA661ED1244039

Instructions for installing on the 9780:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process may take up to 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

Some would say this is NOT an official RIM release, like I saw posted somewhere here a few days ago... ;-)

BTW, I still have cursor issues with this release on my 9780...

I've been running this since it was leaked. Better than .359. Fixed scrolling issues when entering text in all apps. Battery life seems unchanged. Good upgrade!

I just updated mine today with no issues.
All I can say is that the look and function of this will take some getting used to.
I actually preferred the home screen of OS 5 - most noticeably that it let you see more of your wallpaper. This new one obscures any photo with all the other stuff it displays.
Oh well - that's progress !

You know you can get rid of all the icons on the homescreen if you want, right?

yeap i like with 448 but it doesn't support east asia langauge input.

I can only view.

anyone can help this issue?

I really liked 9700 one with 461 update.

that one kinda faster speed scrolling than 9780 with 448 but except web browsing.

Differences between 9780 and 9700?

I have been running this release and it is doing fine for me, no issues per se.

The one "odd" thing I do encounter is sometimes when I type, a letter somehow goes in twice instead of once ie. "twwice" as opposed to "twice".

Any thoughts if this is related to this release or just a general "quirk"?

Go into Options and then type "keyboard" in the search. Go to keyboard settings and change the "key rate" from "fast" to "normal".

Thanks. Mine was set to "normal", so I will now try "medium slow" and see how that goes.

Again, much appreciated.

I've tried changing the keyboard speed but this didn't help the keyboard "stutter". I've had the stutter with two different OS versions so I'm starting to get worried that it's a hardware issue. A lot of people are complaining of the same thing.

Question : when I plug in my 9780 it gives me 3 options :
- USB drive
- Sync
- Charge only
Which one shall I use to upgrade the OS ??

The easiest way is to use your computer to do the update. Have you tried that? The directions are at the top of this thread.
