Curve 8530 can't compose new email, send pics
 

Hello, this is my first time here, but it's to fix a rather serious problem that I've been dealing with for well over a month: my Blackberry Curve 8530 CANNOT compose new emails: it can reply to emails that people have sent me, it can compose emails to people whose emails I already have saved, yet if I try to "Compose Email" and enter a new address, it can only "Save Draft."

Not only that, I can't email or MMS any of my photos either... the only way to get them off of my phone is if I "send to Facebook," or copy them to my computer using a micro-USB cord.

Needless to say, a battery pull has NOT worked. I've also already come across people posting on other sites about the same problem (and there seems to be a similar issue with the 8520). I've heard the problem is due to an issue with the OS (which makes sense, because I used to have NO trouble doing so), and that I can downgrade to an older OS, but that it's a time-consuming process (and either way, if that is indeed the cause, I can't believe that Blackberry has neglected to upgrade their OS, to fix the problem...) :x(n)

Seriously now, over 170 views, no replies? Someone else has to have had this problem. Are there any sites I should ask on?

I don't have a fix for you as I have never had this problem with any of my BB's.

Did this happen all of a sudden or was it after you did something?

OS's become corrupt on any platform. Maybe that is what happened.

You ned to keep your shirt on and wait until the right person comes along with an answer. Two hours isn't very long.

What did you do to the device just before this began to happen?

Do you have a Blackberry dataplan from Boost?

Can you send and receive BBM, have Internet access via the BB browser?

What trouble shooting have you done other than a battery pull? Resent service books? OS upgrade?

Installed an app or theme that prevented it? What else?

Thank you both for the replies... yeah sorry if I seemed impatient, I just remembered seeing other people talking about this issue before--on sites that unfortunately I've since lost--and figured it might ring a bell... but, I suppose at least this gets the ball rolling.

Anyway since this has been going on for probably over 2 months, I couldn't even begin to estimate when the problem started. Needless to say, I wouldn't generally compose many emails on my Blackberry, when I could do so much more quickly on my laptop's full keyboard. Nonetheless, since I don't always HAVE that laptop around and it's an option I'm paying for, I need to restore the ability to do so.

And yeah, I do have a dataplan from Boost-- I can surf the web; I can't say I use BBM (I had to even Google what you meant by that), or know what you mean by "resending service books." From my experience, the OS generally upgrades by itself; I had already mentioned that I heard this may be related to a problem with the latest OS (I'm currently on v5.0.0.654 Bundle 1108, Platform 4.2.0.298). And there's a dozen apps and things that could've gone wrong (not that I've installed any new apps in the last 4 months, and the problem hasn't been going on that long).

Really, I could troubleshoot to infinity, but at the end of the day I'm not a Blackberry tech, so that wouldn't tell me much or do me much good. Do they themselves have a tech support phone number? Or email??

Anyway I'm checking their website now, I'm also realizing now that I can't seem to Forward emails, either... the plot as they say thickens...

Go to the Email Settings/Setup/Accounts icon on the device.

Log in to the Internet Email Settings. (If you don't know or can't remember the log in information, contact your carrier for them to reset them.)

Once you are logged in, press the Menu button and select "Service Books".

Click on "Send Service Books".

Thanks for that tip, unfortunately it/Service Books still didn't seem to help-- I went to the "Email Settings" icon under "Setup," that listed my linked email accounts, I hit the Blackberry button (to the left of my trackpad), selected "Service Books," asked it to "Send Service Books," after a wait it did and I received an "Activation Server" email for each of my 3 accounts, promptly tried to Forward then "Compose Email," and got the same results... it wouldn't pull up any of my contacts, type in an email, and I could only "Save" the draft... (???)

Go tot he 8500 section. There is a sticky at the top with the latest OS for your device and the instructions.

I'm not finding directions for that. Bear in mind, this is my first post here, so these forums won't even let me paste which links/pages I'm seeing yet.

Anyone else know where to find how to change your OS there??
