How to type letters as numbers?

Anyone have any tips on how to type letters as numbers? For example, I need to spell out a phone number for a company's 800# for example.

Anyone have any ideas?

What has been previously posted is...

"How to dial alphanumeric phone numbers...Hold down the ALT key while typing the letters of the letters portion of the phone number."
