INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENABLING AN AT&T BLACKBERRY

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENABLING AN AT&T BLACKBERRY

You cannot transfer your device to Cingular unless you find a way to unlock your device (most of the time which requires you to pay someone to do this) OR you may follow the instructions below:

1. Acquire a new AT&T SIM card. You cannot reassign the current SIM card in the AT&T device to another person. Look for SIM cards at your local AT&T Wireless stores. (Probably renamed to Cingular now -- do not go to a new Cingular store, they cannot help you). These AT&T SIMs are in short supply. Also try searching http://www.ebay.com for "AT&T SIM".

2. Call 888-288-4202. This is a direct AT&T activation number, not customer service. Do not call until you have your new SIM and are ready to activate your account. You will need your drivers license number, social security number, date of birth, home address, home phone, the SIM card number, the AT&T device IMEI number (found on the back of your phone under the battery), and your credit card number. Ask for the unlimited blackberry plan (should be $49.95 a month) and if you do not want to use the blackberry as your phone ask for no data plan (they may have to temporarily assign you a voice plan and then remove it from your account).

Please, there is no need to post the same message in multiple forums.

Pardon the interruption...

I just wanted anyone looking for this information to be able to find it. I looked for months for this information and I know it will save countless hours of frustration for other AT&T users. However, I just realized that a single post can be searched regardless of what forum it is in.... sorry......
