so what does it do does it give you a bigger screen on the pearl for video?

Thanks dollars5(y)

sman 04-13-2007 01:01 PM

does anyone else have a problem creating a new playlist? Specifically changing the title. I create the list, change the name, add songs and save. Afterwards instead of the name I created I get "Sample Playlist". And when I go to create another list, it won't let me, it brings up an error message "Playlist already exists"

beyondalegend 04-13-2007 01:05 PM

The video playback version is not free(n) lol...

The video playback is free but full-screen mode is not..
(there are two cheap alternatives for full screen playback:
1 - mediaPlayer v1.1 - just for 19.99 or
2- multiPlay professional v1.1 together with mediaPlayer+vNotes+txtNotes just for 27.49)

@sman: The personal edition restriction is that you can have only one editable playlist and it will be saved as sample playlist only.

I cant get any videos to play, is it because I'm using the trial version?

cenner 04-13-2007 02:28 PM

What a tease! I thought everything was free. Guess it was too good to be true. =) Hehehe.

Does your Blackberry has 4.2.1 OS - the mediaPlayer video playback will work only on OS 4.2.1.

4.2.1 OS only supports video playback for third party apps like the mediaPlayer and multiPlay. It is just easy to upgrade to 4.2.1 to get many more benefits appart from just using these apps - it opens up a whole new world!

beyondalegend 04-13-2007 02:49 PM

No I have 4.2.0.64, oh well....

dollars5 04-15-2007 11:23 AM

You will need 4.2.1 to use the video - else it would normally function as an audio player - you can enjoy the benefits of multiple playlists, dancing lights etc.

Dollars5:

Just tried out MultiPlay 1.1, and I'm quite impressed with it. There's only one tiny drawback for me, which is really something I could work around with a few hours of conversion time.

The media player that comes standard with the BB Pearl is able to play Windows Meda Audio (WMA) files. At first I didn't think it would be able to do this, since I had read here that some folks had lockup problems with playing that format. However, I have a mix of both mp3 and wma files, and they play just fine. Perhaps it has something to do with converting them all to 128kbit with Windows Media Player 11 under Windows Vista.

Would it be too much of a stretch to enable WMA-capability in multiplay. or is it possible?

dollars5 04-16-2007 06:25 AM

skawt: Thanks for your interest with our products, but unfortunately RIm has not opened up the WMA API's for the third party developers - as soon as that is available - sure we will update our mediaPlayer to incorporate WMA and WMV support. I have been speaking to a RIM developer who is close to us - but he is unaware of the ETA - that is very unfortunate.

May be with next OS update they might open it up.

GREAT INFO on WMA

Hey Skawt,

Thanks for the information regarding the WMA files. I didn't know you could play WMA with the built-in Media Player... that is the format ALL of my music is in and I spent hours converting them to MP3's...when I first got my Pearl, I had Windows Media Player 10 and they would not play but now that I have 11 and have coverted them back to WMA, it works like a charm. I prefer WMA files because they take up less room. Thanks for the great piece of info.

dollars5 04-17-2007 12:58 PM

Bundled BlackBerry player can play WMA format, but third party apps like us are restricted of this :(

Seems like RIM plans to add this for their next OS upgrade and that Dollars 5 mediaPlayer will support it too - but we have to wait till then.

skawt 04-17-2007 10:16 PM

That's good to know. The media player that comes witht he BB is okay, but it really could use help. MultiPlay is exactly the kind of app I'm looking to use for my MP3 files. I look forward to the version that works with both MP3 and WMA.

search for TIM Italy - they have the latest OS I believe. I haven't downloaded it yet - some people seem to have complained about system stability.
