JBenchmark -- Benchmark your BlackBerry!

Download the JBenchmark by entering this address into your BlackBerry and clicking the MIDP 1.0 link.
http://wap.jbenchmark.com

Here's my results:
BlackBerry Model: 7280
BlackBerry Carrier: Rogers
BlackBerry Handheld OS: 4.0.0.128
JBenchmark: 759
Text: 128
2D Shapes: 211
3D Shapes: 143
Fill Rate: 44
Animation: 233

Interestingly, it says my handheld supports MIDP 2.0. The first four tests in the MIDP 2.0 version of JBenchmark actually works on my 7280 under BlackBerryOS 4.0.0.124 but then crashes on the fifth test.

Sprint Sanyo 5500 Results

I ran the same test on my SprintPCS Sanyo 5500, and it returned the following results:

JBenchmark: 885
Details:
Text: 280
2D Shapes: 225
3D Shapes: 111
Fill Rate: 29
Animation: 240

Interesting comparison. I hope more people post the results from their devices.

I can't download to any BB running 3.7.1.41 via our BES or WAP on T-Mobile.

JesseRPI 09-28-2004 11:53 AM

Hmm... are you trying the version 1 link? That's the one that works.

Yes, I get a 406 error.

Mark Rejhon 09-28-2004 06:47 PM

OTA downloads work for some carriers and not for others. However, if you have BES with MDS enabled, you should be able to do OTA downloads, but make sure you're accessing the WML page not the HTML page.

For T-Mobile users, try the OTA download again.

Gothalyptic 09-28-2004 06:57 PM

I can't do it either myself, I get an error that reads "HTTP Error 406: Not Acceptable. The page you are trying to load is not supported by the browser. Please try loading a different page."

that's with the v1.0 link, same with teh 2.0 link. I run AT&T Os4.0 and am on a BES with MDS. :( I wanted to play too!

though it's interesting, the links show to me as the .jar file, not the .jad file *shrugs*

bfrye 09-28-2004 07:25 PM

It downloads and installs both link just fine for me... but I get the "Module 'JBenchmark' must be signed with the RIM Runtime Code Signing Key (RRT)". Any workaround for this?

Mark Rejhon 09-29-2004 09:01 AM

Interesting, maybe it only runs on 4.0 BlackBerries?

Has anyone ever successfully run JBenchmark on BlackBerryOS 3.7 or older?

I'm running 4.0.0.100

barjohn 10-07-2004 04:27 PM

On my 7100, the 1.0 link fails in the download with an invalid .jar. The 2.0 link downloads and installs. Even has a cute Icon but when I run it I just get a red screen and nothing happens. How long should it take to run. I can stop it with the escape key.

Mark Rejhon 10-07-2004 06:09 PM

Try bringing up the menu and seeing if it allows you to begin executing the benchmark. I had a blank screen on my JBenchmark, but was able to trigger it to run with visual commotion.

barjohn 10-08-2004 09:42 AM

What is visual commotion?

Mark Rejhon 10-08-2004 03:03 PM

visual activity. animations.

jumpmonger23 10-09-2004 01:03 PM

Tried the 2.0 on my 7100, and during the test i got an exception, "Multiple change pointers not allowed" or something close to that.

Forgive me, but what exactly does "benchmarking" your BlackBerry do?

Mark Rejhon 10-12-2004 02:39 PM

Measures the relative performance between different BlackBerries and different cellphones.

This can pertain to the speed of text display, email scrolling speed, graphics, videogames, application launching speed (remember the 2 second delays in launching software? -- this can vary from BlackBerry to BlackBerry)

By benchmarking, we can determine whether newer BlackBerries are faster.
