Default VZW Asurion Insurance - 10-25-2007, 08:45 AM

Hey all,

Not sure where to post this so its going in the rants/raves, but it really is more of a question.

I recently filed a claim through Asurion and received my NEW(not refurb) 8830. Currently i have not activated it and am using my 'broken' 8830. I am now in the process of switching service to ATT.

My question is, can i sell the Asurion phone I got w/out activating it on the VZW network under my account? Is there any kind of block so it can only be registered to my account?

Hold on a sec... how did you end up with two 8830s?
If you received a new 8830 from Asurion, you're supposed to send your broken one back (unless it's lost or stolen).
You can't legally keep them both. That's insurance fraud.

Send your broken back one back to Asurion. (You should have gotten a return envelope from them.)

Then you're free to do whatever you want with the new 8830. It's not "locked" to your account in any way.

I dont plan on keeping it. it still works. I have had the asurion box for about 2-3 days. I dont plan on sending it back until my phone is shipped from letstalk. i ported my number to ATT, so i want to make sure everything is received and good to go before i send things out. They have 15 days to receive it.

Easy with the insurance fraud accusations.

And you're gonna use the new 8830 on AT&T?

So did you file a false claim with Asurion for the "broken-but-I'm-still-using-it" device?

There is a crack in the screen, and a letter doesnt work on the keyboard. I can still make calls and read email.

I purchased a 8310 from letstalk.

Can we close this thread since i dont appreciate being treated like a moron.

1. I'm not committing insurance fraud

2. I'm not attempting to use an 8830 on ATT's network.

Well then you aren't committing insurance fraud, and no one is treating you like a moron, but your first posts never even mentioned an 8310 and certainly filled me with questions.

Perhaps it is poor wording, but it certainly reads as if you are moving the 8830 the AT&T.

Well, before your first post I had mentioned (in my 2nd) that i was waiting to receive my phone from Letstalk.

Either way, maybe i could have been more clear.

So to answer your original question, (I think penguin already did), you can do whatever you want with the device, it is yours. It won't be locked to your account.

I only wanted to ask the question, and it has been made clear you are not doing anything wrong... you don't know how many messages get posted here and PMs and I get from people asking how to evade the law or a contract on BB issues.

It is clear you are doing the right thing.

I totally understand. Assume the worst, hope for the best?

I just wanted to make sure, since I am now selling the 8830 on the forums. I did not want whomever receives the phone to have any problems activating it on their end.

I have a similar question but don't know where to post it. I have a 8703e which I dropped in a puddle. Asurion said they would replace, but had to send the newer model of the same blackberry. They sent me a Pearl 8130 - more of a cell phone than a blackberry. I will not be able to use the keys or read emails on the small screen. I've called them but end up on hold. Will Asurion let me swap this for a different replacement Blackberry or am I stuck with this??? I broke the seal on the box, but did nothing more than look at the phone.

If you haven't connected the device, try taking it into a VZW Corporate store, not the 'authorized resellers'. They'll probably give you credit for it and just make you pay the difference for the one you want. Depends on how you talk to them cause they've done it for me with my fiance's phone.

yes, definitely try a corporate store. The probably would not have any problem swapping you to a 8330. Assume this was NOT a refurb?
