wish the kid who found my Dash would of been as thoughtful as you. I called, left messages and sent text offering rewards. the kid answered a couple of times and pretended he couldn't hear me.

kudos to you

The problem is there are more people in this world who would not even try to return it then there is honest people. Our chances of getting our missing BB back are slim to none.

That is just not in my DNA. I can't imagine keeping a device that I found. Knowing what I feel like when I misplace mine, I would do everything I could to get it back to the owner.

I appreciate what you've put the effort in to, I've had two phones returned to me by people with the same type of integrity you have. Once was stolen out of my backpack while in high school, the other I kind of...misplaced stupidly

Both times whoever found it speed dialed "Home" and let me know where to meet them to get it back, and both times I checked, out of healthy paranoia, the phone bill, no abuse at all.

Keep it and screw the owner because of the way he was acting. What the OP did was commendable, but by now he's exercised all his resources, and more than enough time. He deserves it for his trouble, especially if the owner doesn't want it back.

my dad has been the beneficiary of a good samaritain with his lost BB...we were in vegas. he couldnt remember if he left it in a cab (more like fell out of his pocket) or at a casino (blackjack table), so he called VZW and told them it was lost and had them send the replacement (he had that insurance). We get back home to CA two days later and we a call. Somebody found the phone, called verizon saying they were calling from a lost phone and VZW conferenced him in with the home number on file...a week later we had three 8830s (lost, temp, replacement)! just proves that there actually are some decent people in this world.

Once when I returned a lost phone the owner thought I was crazy for not keeping it. Let's just hope if any of us ever loose anything someone returns it.

They didn't make any effort to get the phone back to the owner because the owner had already filed an insurance claim and received a replacement. When they do that, the original phone is put on a blacklist and cannot be activated by the carrier (only the insurance company itself could remove the blacklist). It's basically useless and of no value, so no point in trying to return it if that's the case - just salvage it for parts for yourself

If the owner didn't have insurance, though, they'd be a happy camper if you returned it.
