Default Stolen BB Pearl, Help please - 04-09-2008, 10:32 PM

Hey guys I had my blackberry pearl stolen today, after all the stores were closed so I am in need of some help so that I maybe able to sleep tonight. I am upset about this and I don't know what to do. I have never had a phone stolen. It has my sim card in and when I call it goes straight to voicemail (no surprise there). I searched stolen and picked up some posts about having the store disable the phone. Does anyone have anymore information about what can be done? I do not want this jerk to use my phone and I want to make sure all my information stored to the phone is safe. I still have the original box with the PIN and IMEI numbers, but nothing else. Sorry for such a long post, any help would be great.
Thanks,
Daniel

Did you have a password on the device? Are you on a BES?

If you didn't password protect the device and you're not on a BES (if you were, you'd likely know what it is-it's how corporations connect their BB's to their networks) then your data is out there for whoever finds it.

Call your carrier and have them deactivate your sim card so they can't run up a big phone bill calling China. Sorry to hear.

Report it lost/stolen. They will cancel the service. I hope you can recover it. You can wait, hoping they will turn on the phone and you can try and call them but you risk a big phone bill. I've heard of people leaving it active and looking at their bill online to find the numbers being called and calling those numbers but it's a longshot.

I'm not quite sure.
I know Tmobile (at least from what I've seen) tracks SIM cards not by your own number, but a different ID number on the card itself, so that would make it seem like you could get that card that was stolen shut down, and just get a new sim and keep your number. I'm not sure how true that really is though, it's just what it seems. And you're with att from what I can see anyway, so that may not be any help to you at all lol!
I'm sure if you ask them when you can call, that they'll be able to tell you all that'll happen though... I just don't think it's impossible to keep your number , then again... I haven't had a phone stolen myself, so I'm not too sure

Also, no need to be mad at yourself over this... if the person actually went through your stuff, there's not much more you could have done. Password protect your phone, maybe... but even then, the phone was still stolen, just more or less unusable.
Sorry for your loss though! I would cry if my blackberry got stolen!!

Yay for being WAY to distracted too miss my internet!

request that at&t do a sim swap. you'll get a new sim card, same number.

sorry to hear about your loss. hopefully, when you report your device stolen...the imei will be flagged and the device, bricked.

When you turn on your phone, does it return the favor? Welcome to BlackBerry!

yes you will be able to keep number

neither TMO nor ATT can disable a device by the IMEI all one has to do is place your SIM card into ill gotten device and you are using it with your own number

well my card was flagged at a few different gas stations yesterday and today, trying to buy things that cost about 3 dollars, and decided to try to figure out my pin number at the atm.
