Default Rogers and Fido to start charging for Texts to the US - 05-17-2008, 11:22 AM

As an employee, and a long time customer, I am outraged at this business decision they have chosen to taken.

As of July 15, all text messages from Canada to the US will no longer be considered domestic. Not only will they go up to 25cents (international rate) but they will no longer be deducted from the domestic text packages or bundles.

/End Rant.

could be that the US carriers have decided to start charging them for the messages thus the cost being passed down to the consumer?

no i think its because no one in canada really texts to the states so rogers decided to change it over... makes sense right? why keep the service there if no one is using it...

If nobody texted to the US why would they change it??? They wouldn't bother. I'm guessing it's just the opposite. They do text to the US and they want a piece of that action. They are nicknamed "Robbers" for a reason.

When I was in NYC last summer with my brother, texting was the primary method we used to stay in touch because we knew we weren't getting charged for them (he's on Rogers and I'm on Fido), unlike calling which incurred HUGE roaming and LD changes. And we sent a lot of messages too!

This decision by Rogers is nothing more than a cash-grab. They aren't stupid.

I'm just waiting for good ol' Ted to call a press conference one day and announce that his company has patented the technology to squeeze blood from a stone.

That's absolutely ridiculous!! Leave it to Robbers Wireless to continue to find ways to increase their revenue stream by gouging their customers.

I just recieved my phone bill fur July...and my monthly billing ends on Jul10...i got charged $75 extra for US text messages sent...and these people put this in fine Print...and now they have the nerve to tell me that I should look on my phone bill and its up to me to check...yet I have called them numerous times and NO ONE has ever told me that US text messaging will not be included...and on top of that I checked their website today and it says effective JULY 15TH...SO WHY THE HELL AM I GETTING CHARGED FOR IT AS OF NOW!!!
