Why? Anyone that really wants to run 4.5 can easily find it.. the North America BIS upgrade happened this morning and is being activated tomorrow morning so 4.5 can be enjoyed.

I guess its better to be released working correctly instead of buggy. If you want that you might as well buy a WM device instead.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

I would have had the original poster's attitude a few days ago.
I will take effectiveness over efficiency

Yea, I rather it not fry up my SIM card. Unless I'm feeling risky...naw, I love using my BB too much and wouldn't live an hour if I couldn't get it to work. Lols. Hope they fix that SIM card frying problem.

Newer beta's are said to not be frying sim cards. It's just a matter of when it's finally released.

This might seem like an obvious comment but when 4.5 is ready for prime time it will be released by the carriers. Until then you are taking a chance of damaging something. I will wait until Verizon puts out officially. End of comment.

I have my opinion and you are entitled to yours.

Always less than expected.
And now unimproved for 2008.

Unfortunately Vodafone didn't listen and released 4.5 anyway!

It's comical to me that people get so serious (I mean, seriously...you're pissed?!?) about this stuff. You've lived this long (however long that may be) without 4.5, and you can live until its release date.

Lighten up, Francis.

Wirelessly posted (8100 Pearl)

Too bad 4.5 got released too soon!!it caused me nothing but grief. Random rebooting. SLOW performance. What little of it I saw looked rather good. Had to degrade back to 4.2. Sigh

i was disappointed with 4.5 and ended up downgrading. certainly far from pissed though. judging by previous comments on it when i installed, i pretty much expected a lot of things not to work.

True... but we are being teased with the plethora of beta releases. We desire something stable and, moreover, official.

Well I think I figured this out. I removed all the OTA and extra APPS I had running i.e. Telenav, Color Pearl, SoftReset, LexSpell and my old Today Plus theme. and then upgraded. Worked like a charm.... also reformated the media card as per previous posts. I put the old Today Plus Theme back (OTA) and it worked to a degree. When I would "hide" or "move" application icons they would not stay hidden or moved after a reboot. So I guess I will have to settle for the regular "Today Theme" until it gets updated.

I also didn't put back Color Pearl or SoftReset due to previous posts about incompatability. I also loaded Telenav back at it seems to work fine... I use Telenav 5.1.1.3 for the ATT 8100.

This leaves LexSpell 2.2 I am reluctant to put it back....... has anyone used LexSpell for the 8100 with OS 4.5?

After reading the good and evil of the 4.5 upgrade, I decided to chug along with the OS that came from good ole AT&T, and happy about it too. I can wait until AT&T sends out the official upgrade email/certificate/file stamped document before any upgrades. Good luck and hope your BB takes a turn for the better.

And I will even wait a week or two after that to upgrade so any last hiccups are cleaned out -- and since I'm on CDMA it will be even later than most.

Part of my reasoning is that I can't afford to have the primary BB out of commission in case something goes wrong. Now if I had a spare -- I've thought of getting a Pearl for weekends -- then I might consider using the spare as a test platform.
