Default Case/Holster from Seidio - 07-24-2008, 03:34 PM

Guys,

Got a Curve a year ago and love it. Based on the recommendations here, I purchased a case/holster combo from Seidio. Looked/worked great at first. Then the spring clip that holds the Curve in place stopped working. I removed the clip and saw that the holster was fine - just the thin, cheap spring had snapped apart.

I called Seidio. At that point, I had the holster for just under 8 months. They informed me that my warranty was for 6 months only. When I asked if they could simply send me a replacement spring (even a used one from a returned product), they said no. All they would offer me was a discount on a brand new holster.

I spent time on the phone, but this is all the company will do. I am hopeful they can do something more equitable, but until then, beware of Seidio.

If their warranty is only 6 months then I'm not sure what you expect them to do. They probably don't even have "spare parts" laying around. They offered you a discount...seems fair to me. "Beware of Seidio?" Seems a little over the top.

If I contacted them, say, 11 months later, I can understand that. If I broke the holster because I drove over it with my car, I completely understand that. It's a 5 cent part. If they truly don't carry spare parts, they can't give me a clip from one that's been returned?

My holster is otherwise perfectly fine. Giving a nominal discount on a $30 holster when all I need is a 5 cent spring doesn't seem like great customer service.

If they were to reuse parts from returned items, I'm sure they would more than likely do it by sending the entire return to the factory to be reworked and resold, instead of just keep them sitting around, taking up inventory space. My best guess is that they don't even deal with the returned merchandise.

I don't see them as doing anything wrong. If they make exceptions for you, then they need to make them for everyone. They make quality products that lots of members recommend, and from what I have seen on these boards they have great customer service.

The case is great. I bought the items because I heard they were very good quality. Maybe I got a bad one, but seeing the latch break from regular use after 7 months is pretty disappointing. Again, we're talking normal use - it wasn't like I was snapping the latch back and forth all day long.

If you guys have a good experience, I respect that. If something goes wrong, don't expect them to do much for you.

RIM (directly or through your carrier) will do the same thing with your BlackBerry. If after 13 months of normal use, your BB breaks, they will not send you a free replacement part, and they probably wouldn't offer you a discount of a new one.

I think a discount is very fair in this instance.
Um, I didn't ask for a free replacement; as I said, all I requested was a cheap 5 cent spring (even a used one). If I could find/buy one on my own, I'd do it.

As for "a long time", you think 30 days past a warranty expiration is a long time? It'd be one thing if I misused the product. Or if I asked for refund 2 years after the fact. I did neither.

We're not talking about electronics here. It's a piece of plastic with a wire spring. Obviously the holster I got was a lemon since nobody has had a similar experience.

You are past the warranty. Plain and simple. They are under no obligation to give you ANYTHING. Have you noticed that you are getting no sympathy here? It's a bummer that your holster broke. Sorry to hear that. However, Seidio hasn't done anything wrong here. I've got one that I got when I first got my Curve and it's still working fine. Suck it up and buy another one or use something else. Trashing on Seidio for this is NOT warranted.

I respect if you think this is great customer service. To me, it's not. I'm just posting a PSA to alert others what Seidio will do in these type of circumstances.

I'll assume you're not posting this opinion in order to protect a sponsor, of course.

You are way off base. Seidio is a good company that has done right by most everyone that has come to this forum and purchased from them. You are looking for something that you are not entitled to and Seidio is not obligated to handle. Also the warranty was in place when you purchased the item, it isn't as if they changed your warranty without notification.

Just out of curiosity, what will you do when you need a repair on your car when its out of warranty?

I think your ID is well suited.

takepityonme...

Let's say you buy a car for $40,000. Several months after your warranty is ended, the distributor breaks. Try telling the dealership they owe you a distributor because it's pocket change compared to the total price of the entire car...and they'll likely tell you where to put your broken distributor(and I don't mean back on the car).

Yes, it sucks that your holster broke/malfunctioned. None of us want that to happen...but it does. The company offers a great product with a warranty...you were one of the unlucky ones that had a problem AFTER the warranty ended. That's all there is to it.

They had every right to ignore you altogether, and tell you to just buy another...but instead they went out of their way and offered you a discount on a new holster. They didn't have to do that, because your warranty was non-existent.

If anything, all your thread is doing is letting everyone know how excellent Seidio's customer support is. I've been wanting a holster, and will definitely consider one from Seidio, seeing as how they're nice enough to offer a discounted new product if mine breaks after warranty.

LOL. Do you know how to read? If I asked for a new one MONTHS after the warranty ended, you'd be right. We're talking 20 or so days. And I didn't ask for a new product - just a cheap spring.

LOL. Because Seidio purchases ads on this forum, the moderators edited my post (and didn't note that it had been edited) as well as moved the post to a less-trafficked location.

Amazing. All I did was post a buyer beware and the forum moderators silenced any discussion. I respect anyone who disagrees with me, but this form of censorship is shameful.
