Im pissed, We are just a bunch of Beta Cows. -
12-06-2008, 07:47 PM
I cant believe RIM with such a stellar record of rock solid devices would put out such a POS.
We pay good $$ for this Storm POS and we are the ones that have to deal with all the problems. We sit here clamoring for an OS upgrade to make the thing work the way it was intended to work and still its sucks. I didnt think I was going to Pay to be a Beta tester.
Everyone that asks me if I like it I tell them NO!! and dont get one for a while, I think it sucks. MOOOOOOOOOO

The storm is amazing. I could list many reasons why I like it better than the curve but I'm too lazy.. anyway.
Have you updated the OS?

You have been here long enough to know exactly what I mean.
Really.... Can you honestly tell me you think it was the right thing for RIM to release this device in its current state of function compared to its previously released devices.
So the Beta cows like me can test it for them????

Honestly? Yes.
I see just as many posts from users who love the Storm as those who are hating it, and that is a culmination from several BB-related sites. And remember, that is only from those who frequent forums. The others routinely are users who are frollicking merrily along enjoying their device.

If you got it for $199.00 awesome deal. If you paid $549.99 you wanted it bad and wanted to be an early adopter and to be a show it off. Either way you are only half way through your 30 days at most. Return it.
The Storm is worth every penny and will only get better.

Agreed Troy!
Like any of the BBs, they all had there issues when release, but as time goes on, they get better. At least RIM is working on it and getting the updates out there. Look that the G1, released, had issues... Some were fixed...
Like any other smart phone out there, there will be some issues, but they will only get better (except the iPhone of course...) LOL can go without some iPhone bashing

Look at all the people who paid full price for the original iPhone when it first came out (DAY 1, me included) and "beta tested" . How did CRAPple thank us. They dropped the price 200.00.
Unfortunately they all do it. I do think Apple is the worst though.

Personally no matter what RIM did they were going to shoot themselves in the foot... It's a touchscreen so it's going to be a love or hate type thing, I know I hate touchscreens so I most likely will NEVER get the storm I prefer my full physical qwerty keyboard. Plus I give it a good couple of months of OS updates before the Storm a true reliable BlackBerry
For the first time I feel the future might hold something different for me. It's possible I'm fooling myself but I'm willing to take the risk.

They should fire the idiots who let this phone leave the factory in this state. BlackBerry is actually commiting fraud by advertising this junk as good to go. My first BlackBerry and I feel as though I have been taken for a major ride. I spent my first day pulling the battery as the phone continued to freeze. The screen/typing issues are by choice, as you know what your getting upfront, but for God's sakes there is no reason to have a phone that has so many basic bugs. I don't want an I-Phone, I want this to work.
I was so excited to get rid of my Treo 755 too.........this sucks.

Out of the 20-25 phones I have owned over the past 12 years, this is the worst release I have ever seen.......Of course I upgraded, it's the first thing I did. The children are the ones who did not have the balls to hold it back until it was ready.

How exactly are they commiting fraud?
I know 3 people who have the device. Two love it one is so so. To each their own. As others have said, if you don't like it, take it back! You have that option.

I've spoken to maybe 10 people who have bought the device, a general consensus is that if you were a blackberry user before, you were kinda used to how RIM worked, and that eventually you would grow to love the device. However the new blackberry users, this was not the most friendly device, it has some bugs. I agree that a company should never sell a product unless it is ready to be shipped, if you compare this to the iphone launching, or even the g1 launching ( that phone has some SERIOUS problems) I dont think RIM really dropped the ball that bad.

Why isn't anybody placing any blame on the carrier? IMO that's squarely where any release complaints belong. RIM gave the device to two carriers to evaluate and they chose to release the device with the OS deficiencies to get your holiday dollars! I doubt RIM forced them.

If this were a new Bold or Pearl or Curve (variations of the same hardware platform) then I would agree that they shouldn't have gone to market with all these issues, but we're talking about something that is so radically different I would have been amazed if it didn't have all these problems.
This is the price we pay for being early adopters. If this is unacceptable, then you should have held off and bought the Storm in April.
Consider this: So far, most if not all of the issues should be able to be solved by a software update, meaning all indicators point to six months from now this will be a completely different device.
I'm willing to wait.

Do you really think that you shouldn't expect quality from a very different device?
If RIM is a quality company then they should produce quality products - no matter how different they are. They should be held to a real standard.
When I checked out the storm I went to a verizon store to play with it and the OS just hung at times and I knew that an OS update would solve it, but most people don't want to buy something hoping for an update - with very legitimate reasons.
No matter how new the design of a device is, it's not unreasonable to expect and demand quality.

I think that is why the Storm has been such a dissappointment to many, RIM is known for the quality and people were expecting (if not raving) about RIM's touch screen BlackBerry the concept of a something as "cool" as an iPhone with the reliability/communiation of a BlackBerry, I think people really got there hopes pretty high. And in turn we get this... I give it a good six months then the Storm's image will turn around. (granted I still won't get because I really do prefer the full qwert physical keyboard. )

Very true, we all ave certain brands we prefer more the other. (Sony > HP, BlackBerry > iPhone, etc, etc)
When I messed with the Storm it lagged for about 4 seconds when switching between a few things, that lag was not my perception it was actually taking that length of time to do something. For some it is exceptible and for others it is not.
Given time the Storm will be accepted, except by those who hate touch screens.
For the first time I feel the future might hold something different for me. It's possible I'm fooling myself but I'm willing to take the risk.

I thought the storm was a great idea too - I think blackberry needs to and is trying to push into the "consumer" cell phone market.
When I played with a storm at a verizon store the OS froze when switching from landscape to portrait mode for up to 20-30 seconds. To me, that's just unacceptable for a phone and it made me walk away not even thinking of going with the phone.
The first six months is when a phone garners its reputation (it's when reviews are done, etc..) so it's probably the most critical time. The storm was designed not to attract just the blackberry faithful who are willing to give RIM 6 months to work out the kinks, but those who are considering the iphone and are potential new blackberry faithfuls.
When I looked at the storm it was the first blackberry phone I had ever touched and if that were my only option in the blackberry line up then I wouldn't have gotten switched from my iphone.
The one thing Apple is really good at is making the whole experience of their products a smooth experience and RIM needs to start doing that if they're going to make a significant dent in Apple's market.

Wether or not the Storm is a good phone is purely subjective, my son bought one, used it for a week and returned it, my daughter bought one and loves it, I used both my sons and daughters and didnt like it nearly as much as my Bold, it's a nice phone and will only get better but I dont think is ready for prime time yet, I have a Bold and can't imagine it being much betterthan what it is, it's all individual choice and perception.
