The Worst phone you've ever owned... -
12-16-2008, 07:43 PM
Now that I'm happy with my Curve,I can now ask fearlessly whats the worst phone you guys ever owned?
And why did it suck so bad?
Ill start off.
The worst cell phone I've ever owned was a Motorola RAZR on Sprint. What makes it even dumber is that I bought it for $250 online because it was the 'Red' edition phone.
I discovered the color was appropriate.
What Motorola did was half-a$$ port a UI that not only was slow, but lagged horribly on the most basic tasks.Think waiting 5 seconds to check a stored phone number. And may Heaven help you if your text message was over 2 sentences.
Because once you got to sentence #3 your words started appearing 10 seconds after you typed them.Keep going and the phone would just crash.
Even on standby the RAZR had a nasty habit of lying about its battery life.See,let's say it lasts 5 hours from charge to dead.It will show full bars until hour 4,then it'll go to yellow and red in the last hour.
Yeah,it sucked. And because I bought it out of contract there was no exchange option available.

I would say any device I owned that had windpows mobile on it. I hate the reboots and all those random crashes

I would have to say that I am not a big fan of my 2g (1st generation) iPhone. Even with the updates and the restores I do not find it very reliable. I get my text messages late, phone calls that go straight to my VM and the push email is not all its cracked up to be. The texting on it is absolutely awful, sending an email that is more than a few lines is a no- go and I hate the fact that I have to purchase apps to make the phone as functional as I would like it or what it should have been out of the box.
I'm hoping Santa takes care of me this year so that I can do away with this POS.

RIM BlackBerry 7230. That thing (on T-Mobile) had big reception problems for me indoors.

In all honesty, I would say my first generation Iphone. The Iphone was SOOOO hyped up in the beginning, I was scared to death to even use the damn thing. Always thinking I was going to drop it or somehow it would have slipped out of my hands and crash to the floor. Plus the whole lack of keyboard thing REALLY killed it for me. I knew what I was getting into prior to buying it, but I didn't think that the lack of a REAL keyboard was going to make that much of a difference. It sure did...it sure did. I used my Iphone for 2 days and got rid of it.

I love the Storm
The T-Mobile Shadow was my worst ever..... Had it for 12 days (tried to stick it out) and sent it back with the quickness.. The device was horrid in my opinion....

Nokia. I forget most of the models, I had a few. But I HATE Nokia's - esp the 5110, oh yes I remember THAT piece of s***.
Before my BB and iPhone, I switched to Sony Ericsson devices, and as far as phones go, they are very good.
I HATED THE NOKIA'S though. I hated the stupid menus, the non-intuitive navigation, the stupid fascias that came off so you could change them (but often just fell off)
I HAAAATTTTEEE YYYOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU NOKIA
I HATE YOUR STUPID COVERS
Oh who started this thread? I've got to go and have therapy now. The bad memories are all back

Motorola RAZR on Cingular . . . 1st gen iPhone on AT&T . . . and more recently, for the brief 10 days of ownership, BB Storm on VZW.

LG C1300. Worst phone ever. After a year or so the battery life was only a few hours. Near the end it got so bad that the lcd wouldn't active upon opening.

Too funny. I had that phone from PrimeCo for a while also, and it did suck pretty bad.
I had one that topped it though; LG 4NE1 from Sprint PCS.
Article on this piece of FOD.
My wife and I got these phones when we first came to Sprint from PrimeCo after they folded and became Verizon. Funniest thing would be that the phones would never have comparable signal even when in the same room. One might have full signal, and the other would be roaming even when sitting side by side.

LG VX3200
I could be surrounded by people on VZW, all talking on their cells, no one dropping calls and I couldn't even dial a number because I had no service. Had it replaced several times, given several excuses why that particular unit had issues, and had several unhappy years of cell phone usage (I didn't know that I could buy a new phone in the middle of my contract, I thought I had to wait until my contract was up to change phones )
I got better reception with my Nokia 5130, although, I was on Cingular at the time...but still!

A pink Princess dial phone I got for my grandmother years ago from AT&T. The bad part was that I got it back when she died and I was too cheap to not use it and it had a very useful amplified headset. So it became a source of amusing and not so amusing comments until I got a push button phone from AT&T just before they were broke up. You all remember AT&T, the phone company?
Even less than before,
Which is less than nothing!

worst phone i ever had was the Motorola SC-3160. It was a dual-band first generation digital phone for Bell Atlantic Mobile (BAM). it had amazing battery life and vibrate (way ahead of its time), but the quality was so shotty that I went through 4 of them in the first year...and when the 4th one broke I demanded that I be given a Nokia 5180. The Nokia 5180 was by far the best phone I have ever owned. Great lithium-ion battery life, great ringtones, very durable, and you could buy face-plates by the dozen on ebay. My 5180 eventually had a problem, but by that time BAM became Verizon, and I was given a Nokia 5185i. The 5185i was basically the same as the 5180, except that it added a retractable antenna and 2-way text messaging.
Motorola SC-3160 (note the flip-style keypad cover! such a late 90's feature ) :
http://www.permutalivre.com.br/img_p...e/img13234.JPG
Nokia 5185i (note regular antenna stub instead has a little tip towards the end...that is the retractable antenna...but the rest of the phone remained virtually the same but with the addition of 2-way SMS:

Not sure of the brand name or model number but it had a giant box that fit in your trunk and then a massive phone unit that was mounted on the transmission hump with a rotary dial phone. It took the tech all day to install it.
Cost a fortune. Got service in larger cities but not in too many rural areas. Believe I had it in the early '70s.
Upgraded it to a Motorola Bag Phone.

In a previous job , I got to Friendly User Trial handsets. Carried some real stinkers back then. I don't remember specfic models, but Siemens and HP in general come to mind as not so great.

worst phone i ever had was the one bolted to the floor of our old lincoln back in the early 80's, with a giant box of some kind bolted in the trunk. Had big push buttons and a key and a big receiver handset just like a payphone.
