Thumbs down Storm = Worst phone ever built

Please Login to Remove!

Just wanted to vent on here about this Blackberry Storm 9530 I have. I know a few other people personally that have them and they all agree. The Storm is by far the worst phone I've ever had in my life....haha and I've had some pretty awful ones. First, the boot time. WTF!? 7 minutes to reboot...what could it possibly be doing!? And the sluggish interface is enough to drive me insane. I can't even count how many times I've hit the unlock key and it sits there and does nothing, so I hit it again, then suddenly it unlocks and then, oh...it re-locks. Ugh. Not to mention the countless times it's totally frozen up or rebooted on it's own as well. Last week, for a period of 4 days straight, the phone would completely lock up anytime I would get an incoming call, preventing me from answering it. Nice....and then it just started working again one day. I did the OS upgrade that they release and found almost no improvement at all. For a few days it seemed a little better, and then finally it returned to it's normal completely worthless & retarded self. I wonder if they actually test these phones and their OS' before releasing them? But in all seriousness, most days I feel like smashing the phone with a hammer, lighting it on fire, and running it over with a truck... =)

Ouch! Don't do that. Want to sell it for a few bucks? I can make it work like a charm (like I have done with four so far). Just takes some reading, patience and optimization.

Start with loading OS release .151, and getting the file free memory above 25MB, and most of your problems will vanish.

Anyway, you're not the first nor the last to rant about it. But there are over a million more devices out there with people enjoying it. I know many people with a Storm, and some hate it, but by far the majority love it.

I definitely think the Storm is a love it or hate it thing. It's not for everyone, for sure. As JS mentions, there are newer os's than verizon's official release, that will make your storm hum along just fine. Keep reading around these boards for tips and information on maximizing your memory, give it another two weeks, then, if you still don't like it, smash it with the hammer and take pics.

This was RIM's first (and hopefully last) foray into the touch-screen only world. IMHO, they got away from what is their bread and butter - superb email handling - to chase the iPhone. RIM should stick with what they know and ignore the iPhone craze. The market is huge enough for them and Apple and several others to all have monster hits and continue to thrive. BlackBerrys have physical keypads. Always have, always should. The Storm is a niche product and is not indicative of the general BlackBerry experience.

I disagree, in my view the buying public has spoken. Touch & large screens are what the majority wants. RIM needs to develop a phone that does all of the great things a Blackberry is known for while incorporating a smooth running intuitive touch screen.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I had a love and hate relationship with my Storm. At first the phone freaking drove me crazy but after finding few tweaks and learning few tips I came into better terms. Adjusting the screws behind the device made it work like a charm along with some user settings had the phone at its optimal stage. I am just not a touch screen person and I just recently gave it to my dad. I miss my storm and its big screen. I am going to miss trying to install hybrids, betas, and trying to recover the phone after being bricked. It was a nice journey but now I have to move on to the Blackberry Tour. Like another user said, if you dont want your Storm, ill take it and get it working again!

Well I understand that the phone can be a pain. I love my more than I hate it. If I recall the Storm was RIMís 3rd place top world seller. You should have no trouble selling it, if you donít want it anymore?

I think the Storm is horrible for a Blackberry.

But it's nowhere close to the worst phone ever made. Motorola has got to hold that honor with its recent crop of crap over the past 3-4 years. As bad as can be.

I agree, Motorola is just now start to make some nice phones. For a long time the Razr was the best phone they had. There is some stuff that I have seen that looks real cool coming from Motorola.

Now on the Storm being the worse. No way I have tested and used some real bad phones. After the 148 software the phone is a lot better.

I have used my Storm for about 6 months now, and I love it more each time the OS upgrades come out.
I am a heavy mail user, and once you get used to typing on the screen, it works great for that.
Yes, there are some quirks from time to time, but try using a Palm, Moto Q or any other smart phone, and you will appreciate the Storm.
Iphone is pretty, but just doesnt work here with ATT's crappy coverage.

Strongly disagree! Sitting on ones laurels is what nearly killed Palm [the jury is still out, it still may die] Touch screens are the future and every manufacturer are doing them. Not everyone gets it right on their first try and RIM rushed this product out for Verizon. And yes RIM does need to chase the iphone. RIM may be the king of business user now, but Apple is slowly, but surely making in roads into that market. And if RIM isn't careful, they may lose the market they help define.

No one makes worse phones than Motorola, so your post title is inaccurate.

Aside from a few complaints, my daughter loves her Blackberry Storm. Unable to convert my wife to a BB Storm from her aging 1st gen iPhone though.

I told my boss i refuse to configure Storm's, and so did my coworkers. when he told me why i gave him a storm and asked him to type a sentence. he now agrees with us. that isn't a touch screen, that's a pressure screen. after one sentence your thumb starts to hurt because of the pressure it needs for typing a letter.
