Does it drive anyone else crazy when people can't keep there, their, and they're straight? I'm not a stickler for grammar or spelling on interweb forums, but these three words mean totally different things and it's really not that hard to keep them straight.

Yes, those are mistakes that most people with a 6th grade education could avoid.

Now... (at the risk of being flamed)
[myrant] The use of foul language on public board like this from both kids and adults alike who don't have the decency to keep it to themselves. Injecting such words (masked with symbols or not) adds nothing to the forum. It is akin to typing there for their/they're, etc., as I am certain people do know better, don't they?

I can really care less about grammar... I can figure out what they are saying by reading the post... I am lazy a lot of times and do not follow your grammar rant...

AND

I agree with JSanders and do not think it's a cussing matter

'Then' and 'than' too!

English Phonetics. Blech.

Sign language shows distinct differences between those words. Are they distinct from each other in other languages?

Yes, 'then' and 'than' have two totally distinct definitions.

Drives me crazy. Your so right!

Give me a 50-50 chance, and I'll screw it up 90 percent of the time.

I concur. Link in my rant thread about 'u' for 'you' and we'll have a good old time being haters.

I dis-concur. (heh) I speak on the forums the way I speak in real life, and that includes using questionable words in meetings and with 18yo kids to a certain degree. Not all cuss words, mind you - just the generics usually having to do with exclamation when referring to inanimate objects.

I can turn the above rant (not that I'm getting down on you for the rant, it's totally valid) about people who use "bless you" and "god bless you" on these forums and other such sayings. I am agnostic, keep your religious fanatical beliefs to yourself. To me, it's as bad as swearing if not worse.

$0.02 USD, as usual.

BTW: I do believe in the FSM, though. yarrrr.

And, of course, don't forget your and you're.

However, that being said, don't forget that we have users from all over the world on this forum. My bet is that their English is better than our, say, German or Chinese! So, while it could be carelessness, lack of education or whatever the reason, it could also be that the poster is not speaking in his/her native tongue. This could be for the lame joke corner but...

What do you call someone who speaks two languages? Bilingual.

What do you call someone who speaks three languages? Trilingual.

What do you call someone who speaks one language? American!!

I'm not sure, but I was under the impression that these errors are only ones that angolphones make because we become accustom to speaking them and not having to consider the meaning in relation to the word, rather than the sound. I'm no psychologist though, so don't use me in a paper on this!

I get annoyed when people use internet speak or no punctuation when asking a question. It gives me little or no motivation to help them! Is it really that hard to push a couple extra keys?

I live and work in a professional environment in the South and there is a shocking amount of people who can't write a coherent e-mail to save their lives. I see every grammatical mistake you can think of every day. You'd be shocked if you compared some people's grammar skills with their salary. This is no knock on the South (I was born and raised here) but this is something that was pretty rare when I lived and worked in Denver.

The one thing that drives me nuts about RIM releasing more consumer oriented devices is that it drives more and more "IM speakerz" to the BB Forums every day. These days there's a lot of "how do u download ringtonz w/o a data plan. It costs 2 much yo"
