Default Kajeet - 07-20-2007, 01:00 PM

Does this country really need another MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) running on the Sprint network?

Has anyone heard of Kajeet? What the heck is it? It seems like some kiddy based pre-paid plan that does $0.10 per minute. No nights/weekends plans, etc. It seems like a dumb idea, but at least there is no activation fee. It definitely centers around kids, but when the kid gets older, he's not going to want Kajeet.

Kajeet...wtf?!?!? lol

Ok, what is your point? Having multiple MVNO makes it suck. That sound logic. If you're saying that by having many users on your network then you suck, then Verizon and ATT must also suck. I'm sure their high number of users equals out to Sprint and all its MVNOs. Your post is meaningless.

I found the post quite informative myself.... Never head of any of them except Virgin Mobile and Disney Mobile..

Lets start a BBF Mobile and trump it off T-Mo.... (cheap data plan)

Yeah, except his point wasn't to educate us the different MVNOs out there, but to take a unsubstantiated shot at Sprint, somehow inferring that because they have so many, that they suck as a company. Based on that context, his post was meaningless Sprint bashing.

The idea of the MVNO is a good thing, both for consumers and carriers, as it allows carriers to sell bandwidth and minutes that weren't being used in the first place; it also allows for some consumers to get new technology (Helio) or affordable pricing that's designed for their basic needs (Virgin). The MVNOs will benefit from being able to cater to a niche crowd (2-5m customers) without having to incur the expenses of building, owning and maintaining a wireless infrastructure; it cost SKT and ELNK less than a half billion dollars to start the new company - much less than the BILLIONS required to startup a new cellular company. With that said, there are still startup costs involved and Helio is losing money right and left (totaling $400m or so to date); they've added roughly 100,000 customers in the last year of operations - perhaps not bad, but a bit underwhelming.

The market has become QUITE saturated with niche MVNOs offering the same services, though. But that has little to no negative impact on the actual parent carriers (Sprint).

Could it be that Sprint was the only carrier to build out their network robust enough to handle all of those MVNOs?

That is what happens when you cater to:
Teenagers
People with little or no credit history
Unemployed
Deadbeats
Recipe for disaster if you ask me. I read on message board where some customer was bragging he hadn't paid his bill in months and still had service.
